Pennzoil Platinum, Amsoil XL

Similar, but not the same. Pennzoil warranties for 4,000 miles/4 months. Amsoil warranties for 7500 miles/6 months or longer if stated by your OLM or owners manual. Pennzoil Platinum occassionally goes on sale for a few bucks a quart, give rebates, etc.

Hi

Deuce, check out my Penz Plat 10w-30 UOA posted a few days ago in that forum.

Its the older formula, but it has made a believer of me.

Yeah, PP and Amsoil XL are probably VERY similar. Does anyone have a VOA of each to compare? I wonder Amsoil XL has a higher TBN?

On paper maybe similar. In application no shoot out data.

Both are group III oils. But there are a range of group III oils.

Additives packs are different.

Since no one here (speaking) knows the formulas, and there isn't hard comparable test data, best would be to line up all the published info on the oil. The rest is just speculation from both sides of the fence.

Pennzoil meets Acura HTO-06 specs. That certainly gives me a warm fuzzy when I put it into my engine.

When did this happen? Cool.

In trying to keep things in perspective here, if you are going to order Amsoil, order the PAO/Ester stuff. XL is great oil, but so are all the other API SM oils found on the shelf at Walmart. Not sure what you gain by using Amsoil XL. PP is highly regarded by Terry and has a very unique additive package that is similar to GC.

Pennzoil 5W-20

Amsoil 5W-20

Here's the data to compare.

Is the Pennzoil listed by Honda?

Pabs, you bring up a good point. Where can we find that info. Everywhere I've looked says "M1 5W30 or an oil that meets the HTO-06 standard."

If you click on the Pennzoil link Pablo provided it states "Meets Acura HTO-06 for turbo-charged applications (5W-30)"

That's my point. I haven't found anywhere where Acura explictly lists it's approved oils. Every Acura page I've found says to use the Mobil1 or an oil that "meets" the standard. On face value, Platinum says it meets the standard. Is that all there is to it?
