the P.P. in their vehicles ? Currently using 5w30 in Chevy PRIZM (Corolla) w/ 77,000 mis. and have had to top it off more often than when using dino oil . Bummer , engine is quieter tho during revs,etc..

My 02 Olds did at first, which was no surprise as it had 50K miles when I switched it over. After 4-5K miles the useage has went to almost nile.

Nope. So far so good for me, no consumption at all. I'm running PP 5W-20. What's interesting to me though is that it seemed to take more to get it to the "full" line on the dipstick when I first put it in, than the dino I used before. Nearly 5 qts as opposed to 4.5. I wonder why that would be?

On the first change (on the Accord) I had to add a half-quart, which I've never had to do before. But on this second change, after about 1700 miles, it hasn't used any. The car has just under 25K miles on it at present. I drive around 3K miles per month, mostly highway of course.

36k on the motor and 3K on the first fill of PP 5W-20, I have added a half quart. But then, I checked the dip stick while parked at a different location than where I did the oil change. Any slight deviation in slope scews my oil level reading. Check it while out in the street, it's overfilled. Check it in my driveway, a pint low. Both areas seem level. Drives me nuts!!

I've had that same situation when reading oil level , makes me wonder if it has something to do w/ oil filter concealing more oil than other times .

As for more to fill w/ syn-oil than dino , may have something to do w/ the thickness .

I just crossed the 3000 mile mark on my current OCI and added about 1/8 so far so for a 5-6k OCI, it shouldn't be more then a 1/4 of a quart but this is for a 4.5 qt sump. I will re-check it again this week but it's been pretty good. In the realm of GRP IIIs, I think this stuff is the best you can get for protections versus performance. And btw, I went back to 87 octance gas and PP didn't miss a beat so there is another easter egg discovered. Love it man.

Check the ground with a level before you check your oil.

I would say wait till you're towards the end of your OCI because I too thought it was going to use a lot when i STARTED ADDING MAKE-UP SOOONER then when i did with previous OCI of MC... but the intitial loss tapered off. Probably it was using it's Calgon scrubbing bubbles a lot more and it's been well said here recently that most of the wear happens early in the OCI. This is also another reaosn to go the full 5-6-7k with PP rather then initial because it could use some just to clean especially if you haven't used full synthetic before (heightened if you have higher mileage vehicles) so don't worry too much about INITIAL use..it's how things end up that counts. alls well that ends well, as they say..

I am not sure how motor oil and octane grade interact with each other and I hate to ask this but could you exlain it.

06VtechV6 you do not need to explain anything. I already got my good laugh from your Calgon scrubbing bubbles.

NM, that was meant more for the new and different station I tried but a lot of that has to do with the synergy with the bigger filter I use that more of a high revver like it's S2000 heritage.

Same here. It's tough to find level ground! Even what you think could be level, isn't always level. The slightest deviation can make it tough to get an accurate reading.
