Passion for Nissan?

Yeah, Before Frontier my Father had 96 Infinity q45. Great car, V8 280+ horses, very comfy,smooth,very nice interior and leather. Only problems was some sort of vibration around 72mph, dealership was looking for month what was causing it(gave him brand new M35 during that time 
). And then that car went to my step brother, and I believe it overheated on him, and then Alternator gave up, or maybe starter, don't remember. It served more than 180K,than it all happened almost in same time,guess he didn't really care about it.After fixing it up, he traded it in in couple month for 04 Accord with stick.

The timing belt failure was the end of that car, that is why I passionately hate timing belts.
Every Max from 1985 through 1988 was the same way.

My '00 Nissan Frontier with the 2.4 liter has been absolutely bullet proof. It has a bit over 170k miles on the clock and all I have done to it has been preventive maintenance it is on it's 3rd set of tires. An excellent work truck/commuter vehicle.

My 2007 Hyundai has had more problems than the Frontier, and I've only owned the Hyundai for a few months.

I think in way you kind of answered it, most Nissan cars have passion. There aren't many Japanese manufacturers with much soul left i.e. Toyota and Honda. Nissan makes two stellar cars at the moment; 370z and the GTR. And their current line up of vehicles come with solid engines, and offer great value.
When I think of Nissan, I usually expect to see a combination of: affordability, reliability, and sportiness.

Some may love Nissan, and I wish them luck. I'm an old time Datsun fan, having owned 240z's in the 70's.
But I don't see that type of vehicle anymore. Overly complex designs with mundane dynamics. Mostly fwd. One nice sporty model (370z) and a supercar loaded with so much tech it almost eliminates the driver (GTR).
Lately their problems seem to be legion, I see a ton of their cars in the shops needing expensive repairs.

My '07 Altima 2.5 S with the 6 speed manual offered fairly sporty driving dynamics, good steering and braking feel, excellent city and highway mileage, even if I was towing a motorcycle from NYC to Denver, and on top of all of that, it looked sharp on both the inside and the outside.
The competition at the time that I bought it was pretty lackluster. The '07 Camry had a hideous nose, and had no feel from the steering, brakes, or throttle. The Saturn Aura just plain sucked in every category I could come up with, and didn't even offer a manual transmission. The Hyundai was ancient, along with the Honda Accord.
VW hadn't released the CC yet, and if they had, I probably would have gone with that instead. I just didn't like the Jetta or the Passat.
Mazda 6 was a very close second, though. It was a bit dated at that point, but it drove well, and responded great. I just didn't like their ties with Ford.
So, I chose the Altima.
And I never regretted it.

We had an Eagle Premier at the lot I used to work at. Basically a Canadian built version of the Renault 25. It's V6 sounded absolutely brilliant when revved,(the rusted out muffler might have helped a little) but otherwise, it was a piece of junk.

You sell cheap, you sell a bunch.
Basic retailing.
Ask Ford, GM and Chrysler about this.

What current Nissan will ever be collectible?

There are plenty of people driving and preserving real Z-cars and Datsun Sports 1500s, 1600s and 2000s, as well as 510 sedans.
May Nissan return to its late 'sixties, early 'seventies Datsun roots.
That would be something to inspire passion.

Agreed. Mazda may be filling that market.
I believe the G35/G37 is the current Nissan 4DSC.

Based on what I read in Z forums that is not the case. Most are a bunch of demanding owners with high expectations.

I remember one raced me on hwy at night, he was surprised that my altima didn't want to give up, and was just little behind him.He prob. didn't expect that I have same engine
There also was older guy on convertible, during day light,on major road. But I didn't risk. His Z sounded brutal...A looked like it was not just exhaust mod.

Yeah, there is a huge disparity in Z drivers. Some people buy them because they look cool, and know nothing about cars. Others buy them to beat the **** out of, and use them to their limits. The Z car has always attracted female drivers too, they tend to abuse them in a totally different way.
I've got a 'cool kid' across the street with a hooked up 350Z. He has exhaust, wheels, big brake kit and probably some stuff I can't hear or see. As far as I can tell, he never uses any of it.
There are also a lot of people who realized a few years ago that the 3.5 Altima was a pretty potent little car. Not so much anymore, but when they first put that engine in it there wasn't much competition horsepower-wise in that segment.

I want Z pretty bad. For long time.They look cool,they have power to enjoy, and not to much(stock), so you can keep it as DD. In my case I want it as summer car.Or Crossfire coupe,wish they had srt-6 with stick.But AMG doesn't have lot's of manual trannys, or not at all.
We have big VW community here,and it's actually nice to see guys little younger,and guys much older that I am, that actually take care of their Dubs and make real nice cars from old peace of junk.Many also have older Zs,silvias,crx, and so on.Just seen old custom Cabrio for sale, nice looking,custom top,5 speed, and swap from diesel rabbit. Just everything I was thinking to build 6 month ago

Bought a new Datsun 1982 280ZX, 5 sp manual. Loved the car, a blast to drive. Loaned it to my parents to go on vacation from NJ to NC, they loved driving it! Unfortunately it was totaled by a drunk tow druck driver in 1986. That car was well built. Neither I or my wife were injured, just the car. I miss it but I was not in a position to by a new Nisson Z.
