Parts Master 61515 cut open

Hello everyone, long time lurker first time poster. I cut open my filter off my 4.7 Grand Cherokee. It was in service for 5500 miles and the oil was Rotella syn blend 10w30. They are made by Wix and very well constructed. No bypass valve just like the Napa Pro-Select. I don't know why.

Actually the black grommet looking thing in picture 4 could be a nitrile combo valve. It's a combination adbv and bypass in one, just like some of the NPS's have. Without seeing the other side completely it's difficult to tell, but based on what I can see of the other side, it is.

While that particular bypass design is not favored by some here, the rest of the filter looks good.

Yep ... looks like the "combo valve" junk. Give me a good old fashioned spring loaded bypass valve instead any day.

Is there any hard proof these bypass' dont work? I do not mind them.

Combo's give the ability to fit more media, and of course the thread end is always a + for bypass IMO.

I had no start up noise or anything odd with this filter. Ever at -30 starts. The bypass seems to work. Can't beat em for $3.25.

I don't mind them either.. in fact they could be the next best thing, for reasons stated above.

Yes,that is the combo valve.I cut open a PM filter last year and it had the combo valve in it.The one I cut open is the L14670 version of a Purolator.It seemed to be made well but I didnt like the brittle filter element.

The filter shown in the thread is the L30001 version of a Purolator and will fit many Ford products.I am using one at the moment.

You can get these filters at Auto Value Auto Parts.

It look like a Napa? I always want it to use a Napa ProSelect but don't know if they are worthy.

good filters, made by WIX. AutoPartsExpress on ebay has them for $2.38/each.

I suppose if one likes a nitrile combo valve design as compared to separate adbv and metal bypass then they are good buy.

It's a solid filter, made by Wix, only has a nitrile ADBV vs a Silicone valve in the actual Wix branded filter.
A couple less pleats, actually price wise, it's a non-issue for the price.

To me the major difference between this PM61515 and the equivalent Wix 51515/Napa Gold 1515, is this PM uses a nitrile combo bypass/adbv valve(pic 3) as opposed to the Wix/NG which use a traditional separate adbv and metal bypass. The PM is most similar to the Napa ProSelect 21515. A google search of the previous listed Wix/NG/NPS filters will yield several youtube dissections that confirm the difference.
