The tenticles of the GOV are now getting into Ford and Nissan. Nissan surprises me as it is a non american comany....

Ford will be getting $5.9 billion in loans to help accelerate the production of "fuel efficient" cars. Nissan and Tesla (among others -- including battery manufacturers and suppliers) are getting similar loans.

The big difference in these loans and the bailout is that the companies have to show they are financially viable to get them. GM isn't eligible at the moment.

Post-bankruptcy Chrysler is expected to get $6.4 billion.

I honestly don't think Ford would be taking the money if that were really the case.

And why is Nissan getting money from Uncle Sam? Shouldn't they getting money from Tokoyo?

And that's as far as I dare go lest I get edited for content...

Yep, a loan, not a bailout, and how do you know it is "needed"? The government will get it's money back in these cases.

This is part of a $25 billion program to fund fuel-efficient vehicles to help manufacturers cope with the government's strict 2015 fuel economy requirements.

Over 75 companies have applied to get a part of this fund. This is also why Nissan can get a piece of the action, it's not a measure to preserve the domestic auto industry, it's a measure to ease the burden on manufacturer's caused by the government's accelerated fuel economy requirements.

See above. It's not a bailout, it part of a pre-approved fund to ease the burden on OEMs. A burden created by the government with pointless CAFE standards.

Doesn't suprise me. Chrysler was a private company. Nothing really truly suprises me.

What import is that going to be be? Nissan has already been approved, and I'm sure Toyota and Hyundai will be a getting a piece of the action before it's over.

Here's the details of the fund:

People are really jumping the gun here, or rather don't understand the nature of the loans.

We will see... If everyone gets a loan then I will consider the one who took the least of the taxpayers money and work my way up from there.

I just hate supporting a company that screwed the public via tax-dollars.

Well, this is a lot different than a bailout. Seems a lot of us did jump the gun on this. I like this part.

Eligibility:

Congress set forth the criteria for projects and costs eligible to receive direct loans. The key criteria for qualified advanced technology vehicles or qualified components require:
Manufacturing facilities be located in the U.S.;
Engineering integration be performed in the U.S.;
Costs be reasonably related to the reequipping, expanding, or establishing a manufacturing facility in the U.S.; and
Costs of engineering integration be performed in the U.S.
Loans will not be available on a retroactive basis; past advanced technology investments are ineligible.
