I want nothing more than to buy N.A. based companies products, but not if I had to pay for it as a tax-payer first. I realized after Johnny's post that it was for R&D and not to save the company because of mismanagement.

The money given to GM and Chrysler was supposed to be "loans" as well. We all know how that worked out.
I am sure that the truth will come out later.... just give it some time....
They were supposed to be loans, but the bailout didn't have eligibility requirements.
I have no problems with loans as long as they are repaid and the government doesn't use that as their "in" to seize control. This is certainly no worse than the subsidies the imports have gotten, money right out of taxpayer pockets that isn't directly repaid.

If the MFG needs $$ go to a non-government bank (if there is one left
) and take out a loan.
If you can not get a loan, there is a REASON..
The Government is NOT and SHOULD NOT be messing with any businesses. They screw up everything else they touch....
