Rental review 2025 Ford Explorer XLT

That's the rub my friend. Them being the recall leader the last five years running is an industry statistic. It's something I am not making up-or my opinion. And yea-lost big bucks on the F150.

You saw the post with the member who has the quality index and buys vehicles for others?? Right?

And you are sure to scream it from the mountains every time someone makes a post. Get over yourself. None of us care to hear your griping on EVERY SINGLE FORD THREAD. No one ever said you were making it up. Ford has had a crap run lately, all brands do from time-to-time. Mercedes had a super crap time about 20 years ago. Stellantis builds AC components out of plastic.

We're all adults, and can do our research. Sit over there and enjoy your co-developed 10 speed from GM and wait for your DOD lifters to collapse in your 5.3, and quit yapping about something that the thread isn't even about.

If you don't like my posts I hear the block feature works pretty well on here. I have a few that block me. It's an "Elite Club".

It gets so old starting a thread around here and it always ends in people bickering, over something that is not in the thread from the start, or have anything to do with the thread. I am about to give up starting threads around here. Especially happy results threads.

I'm out of this thread unless someone slanders me.

I don't bicker. I ask them to block me. It's their responsibility to do so.

I rarely start threads on here anymore either, no good deed goes unpunished.

We’ve got a boatload of Fords in my immediate family, most higher mileage, and they have been good to great. Been thinking about an Explorer for my wife but that laptop sticking out of the dash would be a deal breaker for both of us.

I think that’s excellent mpg for a vehicle with that much frontal area. The explorer to my eye is a fine looking suv, and return to RWD is excellent. Add those two - RWD costs 1-2 mpg because of the 90 degree gearing, and this gets really impressive. A smaller Honda CRV with FWD gets 26-27 if treated well. The explorer basically surpasses that when considering size and driveline.

It’s a shame that the explorers aren’t doing as well with reliability. I would otherwise consider one as my f150 ages. I think they’ve worked out most of the issues with the transmissions from what I’ve read. It’s hard to find anything with RWD these days, and to me they just handle better.

I’m biased, I own an ecoboost and it’s a remarkable engine. I’ve been looking for something else as my f150 ages but it checks so many boxes so well, I simply haven’t found anything else I want to drive. Hopefully they can iron out the issues with the explorer.

I legitimately average 20.8 mpg in this F150 4wd pickup, which also tows like a boss and can hit 60 in 6 seconds while handling like a car … quietly - something that nobody else has really achieved to my knowledge?

Bitog is as predictable as it ever was.

I'll just point out the actual drivers and owners of this gen Explorer who have chimed in on this thread all seem to have mostly positive things to say. Are they perfect? No. But it doesn't seem to match the hate from certain posters...

Inside and out it looks like the Highlander we rented on Maui.

I'm glad everyone can copy everyone else. Variety is the spice of......oh never mind

I took back the rental Explorer. The Mavericks seem no worse or better after all the poking and prodding by all the updates.
Although not initially apparent, the total reprogramming of the master PCM, seems to have included a new update to the grabby brake situation. Drove all over yesterday and the lady friend mentioned that the brakes were not as grabby. I concur at this time but the last update before this one faded away in about a week. We'll see

Update: Not only is the update still working, you can even do a panic stop without severing a passengers 2nd and 3rd vertebrae. Also the wet braking is now as good (grabbyness) as the updated dry braking. Now you can back up and adjust in your parking spot without passengers spilling drinks on themselves. It is now totally smooth.
