Is moly sold over the counter to fortify those low moly oils? I remember Valvoline's SynPower & MaxLife Oil Treatments used to be heavy with moly but I haven't seen either on the shelf in quite some time.

Just because an oil doesn't have a lot of moly doesn't mean that it isn't a good oil. There is more to the performance of an oil than one single additive.

What whould happen if you put, say, a 1/2 teaspoon of moly grease on some valve springs near the oil fill hole. Wouldn't that mix in?

The Valvoline additive seemed like the best route to achieve higher moly and I thought it was a great idea, but I could never find it up here in our area.

What I've done in the past is put a quart of redline in the engine, given it's high moly count it would reduce down to more reasonable levels when added to the crankcase, but raising the overall moly count a good bit. Adding one quart of Redline with 400 ppms to a 5 quart sump should bring you up around 75-100 ppms of moly when mixed with 4 quarts of a low moly oil. Plus it's a great oil and good for the engine, and mixes fine with other oils, unlike some other products out there.

I see an aftermarket moly additive on the shelves of parts stores, Molyslip or something like that, not sure if that is the proper moly that mixes with oils or not - MOs2, or if we need a different kind of moly to work properly, as there are different types of moly for soluble solutions.

MY #@$%! there is a lot of stupid ideas in this thread.

Buy an oil with moly in it and don't be a complete retard and dump foreign fluids into your engine.

Really, guys. Listen up to the Blaze. Besides, what kinda cars are we talking about here? DOHC 4 bangers? Look, even the VSOT and SLOB are passe' for the most part, unless you happen to have some kinda high-pop V8 with fancy cams and overstressed lifters. The SL and SM-branded oils are more than adequate. VSOT thickens the oil too much, and the SLOB is a low-grade base oil to dilute your synthetic base oil with. All fine if you NEED it, there's a trade off to everything, but if you don't need more moly/zinc/calcium/boron, best to use the specified PCMO and call it a day.

If you feel a compulsion to have a little/lot more additive, buy a bottle of Delo/Delvac, or Rotella T. Just remember, folks, if you have O2 sensors and a catalytic converter, you're fouling that thing to some degree with every mile driven.

But PASTE? Don't hurt yourself fellas.. Read. Search "Moly", search "VSOT", search "SLOB". Read the additive and maintenance forums. Read...

Why don't you just go get some Havoline oil and use it in your engine. It had the most moly aready in it.

If moly is the holy grail of all additives and it's so great, how on earth does GC perform so darn well? Honestly people, just stop worrying so much about moly and fortifying your oil.

Yes, but isn't GC one of those "foreign fluids"

I don't wanna be a retard and use that stuff.
