Ordered rotors from RockAuto. Received each rotor in different packaging.

I've had that happen. I put Centrics on my track cars and if there was an issue I would have discovered it by now since track time is as severe use as it gets. No worries.

Even though you can't see it, a non-coated rotor will freeze to the hub. Check out @Number_35's thread for a really stuck rotor

Centric used to use a real e-coating, including the inside hat, like shown here
(from that link)
So again, they're just painting them for appearance. Anyone in a rust belt area knows to apply anti-seize, Fluid Film, etc to the hub surface to avoid, or help, this.

Doesn't change the fact that Centric cheapened the product. Also, if you really want to apply something to the hub, that can still be done with coated rotors.

Also, some negative reviews on Amazon about the lack of coating and general low quality on the same part number in the OP.

But that's ok because I moved on the Powerstop Geomet coated rotors. If you still prefer the e-coating, there's Wagner.

Rotors appear to be the same so probably different production runs? Same country of origin? Any manufacturing dates on the packaging? The forum compresses images so the labels are difficult to read.

The black box is still legit. I have seen both when we get Centric for competitive make vehicles.
Agreed. Exactly the same thing happened to me, no big deal. I get it, we're a bunch who notices details, such as when Ace Hardware only fills a propane tank to 17 lbs. The rest of the bbq nation seems not to as it's common practice.

And those rotors (I use them) look just like Toyota OE rotors, just that on toyota, the paint is gray, not black. I actually grabbed rear Centric rotors for the LS430 for $27, and $31, pre pandemic. They are in no way performing like a rotor typically with that price. Appearance-wise, 6 years later the hats are not rusted like they were on the rotors that came with the car (got it used in 2016). I'll use Centrics all day long!

p.s. don't know about the coating inside, agreed, thought it was there, would take me too long to pull them out from the basement to check. But on my car they simply fall off, no set screw or anything holding the rotors other than the pads

Thank you.
Why on earth would you come to that conclusion?
Because, ummm, it happens.
Boxes supplied for different companies. The plain box one was probably a private label for a chain parts store that they re-boxed for intellectual property reasons.
Sounds logical.
You won't be able to tell a bit of difference once they're installed.
Pretty sure that will be the case.

Most likely this. Both made in China. One box has 537207-3449. The other has 537207-1134.

Thanks all!

Every Centric part I've used had the name all over the box, never in a plain box. Every Centric part I ever bought came from RA.

probably different batches of rotors so made months apart. sucks that centric does not coat the back side anymore. i usually order centric or wagner e-coated rotors but recently tried dynamic friction geospec fully coated rotors. no need to wash off the machine oil from the rotors. just unbox and install.

Didn't know Centric had done that, ones I used were like the top pic. Fully coated except for swept area. Have only purchased rotors for Euro cars lately, and all have been fully coated (zinc, Geomet, etc.) including vane case and swept areas which indicates they are fully dipped. Only E-coated ones I've ever purchased were Centrics and all were fully coated and swept areas machined clean. Shame they've "cheaped" out on the corrosion protection, but still great rotors for the price.

Just got a set of Wagner e coated from RA last week. Inside and outside of hat are still coated. Unfortunately Centric stopped coating inside

I have been using Durago premium rotors for many years now, fully coated nice rotor. Have done personally 50+ cars with these and never had 1 issue or comeback with them. We have done hundreds of them on used cars at my work again with no issues. And they are priced very well too.

This is how my last packaged was delivered to me by Rock Auto via USPS.

I've also had issues with what RA claims will fit a particular vehicle. I had a nightmare scenario where I ordered an evaporator from them, completely disassembled the dash of the vehicle I was working on, only to find the part wasn't even close to fitting. Had to reassemble the vehicle and order the part OEM, wait 6-8 weeks and do the job over. It was for a family member but still a headache for me.

Not only were they unapologetic, I had to pay return shipping too. Even after I corrected their mistake, they refused to delist that particular evaporator. That means someone else probably went through the same experience as I.

I don't trust coated rotors not to rust and stick anyways, afterall my whole car body was "coated" with some zinc galvanization, then a few layers of paint, then some wax at the factory, and then some oil spray, and parts of it are still rusting!, so they all get some grease behind them.
