Ordered rotors from RockAuto. Received each rotor in different packaging.

Story: I ordered a set of rotors and pads from RockAuto. One of the rotors arrived with a chip on the outer edge, as if it had been dropped, so I returned it for a replacement. The new rotor arrived but in a different box. The initial order arrived in a Centric box, but the replacement arrived in a generic black box. The initial rotor is wrapped in thicker plastic as compared to the replacement. Everything else seems to be the same except for what appears to be minor paint blemishes. Replacement is on the left and the initial is on the right. One looks a little brighter due to kitchen lighting. Side note: count your blessings if you are not OCD. It really sucks.

I'm going to assume the original box got damaged at some point and a generic box was used, but why different plastics (both sealed, by the way)? Does Centric have different manufacturing facilities?

The biggest disappointment is in the third pic, with the rotors upside own! It seems Centric no longer coats the inside of the hat :sneaky:

And what is with the "eco safe paint" label? It used to be an electrostatic coating.

Hopefully Wagner still coats the inside of their e-coated rotors :cautious:

Those don’t even look like the same company made them-I don’t recommend “boycotting for life”, but it would be nice to have 2 that at least match.

New brake parts are not going to arrive in a golden box unless you buy Bentley or a Rolls Royce.

If you find out about Centric's manufacturing facilities, do share. Their website is a void of information. Check out YT for some fun Pakistani or Indian videos of rotors being manufactured. I've used Centric, Reybestos, and a few others with no issues. Good luck with the install.

Does Centric have different manufacturing facilities?
If they do, it's unlikely they're making the same parts at different ones. They will have machining setups for certain P/Ns at one, different P/Ns at another.

If the implication that a "generic" black box with a label is somehow fake, then wouldn't the pads sitting on top be called into question as well?

The less sinister take would be that one is a from on older run with different packaging, Centric simplified their packaging in normal course of production, or that the two come from different suppliers.

What's important is that the rotors appear to be the same, at least from the view offered.

Why on earth would you come to that conclusion?
Ford will use different boxes for the same part number based on whatever is available, especially the past few years. The only thing that would be more lame than a part being on backorder is it being on backorder because of a box shortage. Although it does drive us parts people crazy trying to get the different size boxes in the same spot. The 6L2Z bulb is a pack of 10 while the 3M7Z are individually boxed.

Probably came from a different RA supplier possibly different manufacturing facility.

They're clearly just painting them for appearance and you can't see the inside of the hat....

Even though you can't see it, a non-coated rotor will freeze to the hub. Check out @Number_35's thread for a really stuck rotor

Centric used to use a real e-coating, including the inside hat, like shown here
