Opinions needed for switch from synthetic to dino

1. I have a 1990 turbo BMW 520i with oil cooler, no oil losses and using synthetic when new after 10,000 KM run-in
2. 5 liters oil and oil filter change alternate between M1 5/50w and Shell 15/50w every 6 months irregardless of mileage
3. Have clocked 300,000 KM and is currently being used for daily short drive of 5 KM (one way) and 100 KM highway 90 KM leisure speed once every 2 week

Costs of oil where I live are; 5 liters M1 cost $54, semi-synthetic $27 or $14 for dino HDEO Mobil 15/40w for turbo engine

I was thinking that based on my driving conditions, perhaps it’s a waste to use synthetic and should switch to semi-synthetic or perhaps back to dino? Any suggestions or opinions will be appreciated

You might want to try using Lube Control, following the directions on the bottle. You can find more info using the search function. Pick you oil, add Lube Control, run it for a while and do a uoa to set the pace of changes. This might be a better way than guessing.
