I need some one-piece lug nuts for my 20 Ram 1500 pick-up. After two tire rotations (not by me), the caps are already becoming distorted.

The lug nuts have a 22mm head, are 14x1.5 and use a 60 deg conical seat.

Thanks!

Whoever thought up that design for lug nuts should be forced to use them.

Ford uses them on some vehicles as well. So dumb.

I used replacements from Amazon on our Dakota several years ago.

My favorite were the GMs with the plastic screw on cap. Seems so over complicated...

The Gorilla ones are apparently an excellent option (full disclosure, I've not used them) from what I've heard.

easily foiled by a 12pt socket.
Not really.

- First, it requires them foiling 20 (or 24) lug nuts and not just 4 so that is going to take some time.
- Second of all, I tested this myself with the extra lug nuts I have (I did the full system + different set of 5) and it required hammering the socket onto the lug nut for it to grab the lug nut tight enough to remove it.
- Lastly, the socket would not come off of the lug nut after I hammered it on and so the would be thief will have to carry multiple 12 point sockets.

Foolproof? No, nothing is, but it is more than a few minute job to remove 4 wheels.

Just a note. Over at the F-150 forums, the Gorilla lug nuts are getting some not so kind reviews. Some are replacing their rusted and pitted Gorillas with McGards.

Seems to be a mixed bag in that 112 pages; some are dumping McGard for Gorilla and vice-versa. I have had mine for about 2 years and they have seen the salt water more than once. I have some slight rusting happening at the edges of the splines, but that is not something I am too concerned about. I have had my wheels on and off in the past 2 years more than some have in the lifetime of the vehicle and the Gorillas are holding up well.

Based on feedback, cost and availability, I ordered 24 of McGard's #64073 lug nuts. I paid $117 shipped for 24.

The Gorilla Automotive 66147DX/66148DX were priced slightly higher.

I am not interested in any form of locking lug nut.

When the OEM Ford lug nuts start getting deformed, I will be ordering the McGard.

Toyota also uses a similar lug nut. And to add injury to insult, the OE wheels and studs use a shank-type lug with a washer. And those are used to locate the wheels onto the hub, a stud-centered design. But for some odd reason, models with steel wheels use cone-seat lugs with a hub-centric design.

Gorilla are brutal bad imho, no service and don't last. They are awful for rusting up here in my experience. I won't use them anymore as they don't stand behind them either. I had a set on my Jeep for McGard and OEM I've had the best luck with on a few cars by far. McGard is exceptional in their service too, they once next-dayed a new lock to me when mine broke, and even sent a lil case to put everything in too. I know people have good and bad experiences with anything though...
