Hello,

My new car is equipped with oil temp, temperature is always around 93C to 100C is that usually normal ?

I'm sure that this varies between engines but I guess i shouldn't be concerned ?

Thx

What car? 200-ish should be fine. Readings vary widely depending upon where they are taken, so responses may vary too.

V8 4.8 Porsche Cayenne non turbo
100C is 212F

Hi,
Ndx - Much depends on the engine and its application

These figures are from a heavy diesel engine Manufacturer and of course are somewhat indicative

Engine shutdown* - 120C
Warning-power down* - 115C
Normal - >110C

* Controlled via ECM
Typical Approved engine lubricant - Mineral 15W-40

My own average over millions of Kms was 103C

My Porsche V8 averaged around 95C - of course a thermostatically controlled
oil cooler is used

Remember, the oil's viscosity is typically shown at two points. KV 40c and KV what? That's right, 100c. No worries at all.

Not really, 100C is just a handy point of reference on the viscosity curve, which just happens to be easily repeatable

Cummins builds a gas engine??

It is not needed for the temp to exceed 212 F to boil off moisture. There is significant effect at much lower temps, 180 F is actually fine unless you have a water issue like a leaky head gasket or such!
