Im looking to get oil suggestions for all 3 of my cars in my sig. The Yaris and del Sol I do 1 year OCI's and they get about 5k on the oil. Thinking about dropping the whole synthetic thing. Seems like a waste when Im dumping it at 5k.
Yaris - I drive it 4-5 times a week. 2 100% highway runs to work and a few short 1 mile trips down the street to donate plasma or go to the gun shop. Average 70-80mi a week. Last OC over a year was for 4,612mi.
del Sol - Driven twice a week to work only. Anymore than that is still for work. 100% highway is all she gets. 65-70mi a week. Ive put 4.5k on it since buying it 10 months ago.
Civic - Main commuter work horse. Finace's car that gets driven everyday. 50/50 city and highway. Lots of really short trips. Dosent burn, or leak, but consumes. Loses about 1qt every 3k. Need to ditch the PU and M1, costs too much to use make up for it.

I think your current plan is just about perfect for the Yaris and Del Sol. Don't look at the synthetics as a "waste", since you do go for a full year. Just one OC/year is real cheap anyway even with syns, and the syns will cover that extended time period in great shape.

For the Civic I would definitely use cheapest dino of the day since it consumes and you add 1qt./3K. The top offs replenish the additives, so I would use 5K intervals.

For your gentle usage (mostly highway), the age of the vehicles and the extremely mild WA climate you could use any quality 5w30 for once a year oil & filter changes on all three.

The nice thing is that almost any 5w30 SL, SM or SN oil will fit the bill. Buy it on sale by the (5-quart) gallon.

It's not like you are driving a 2011 M3 BMW in Fairbanks or Death Valley... Or looking for AB- blood.

Cheers!

Glad at least your saying keep doing what your doing. Anyway I was thinking of trying Maxlife in the Civic. Does the current SN have moly? If it does not Ill give something else a go. I dont like paying good money when there isnt a trace of moly to be found. Havent really researched High Mileage oils since I havent cared to use them before.
