Toyota Hybrid 2.5l oil options? Anything new?

Warranty worriers only have two options. Do everything single service by the book at your selling dealer on time. Or download an auto service record app that allows you to upload pics and buy one jug of 0w8 to keep for the life of the vehicle. Then run whatever oil you want.

Non warranty worriers like myself do whatever I want whenever I want.

cool!

So, in other word, you want to gaslight the dealer and the company behind them.. No wonder companies are so worried about scammers.
Not gaslighting, the manual clearly states you can run high viscosity, Im going to ask them via email so its not their word against mine. I want to know what they consider ok to do. Thats the most honest thing you could do, no?

Don’t feel to bad. Every dealer will sell you a BG flush for every system in your car even though the manual clearly states the use of flushes or additives voids warranty. If their trying to deny warranty because of viscosity their dishonest anyway.

The Toyota dealership near me pushes oil and fuel treatments. They do state it isn’t a requirement for warranty or recommended by Toyota in the sales pitch though.

Then why not just be honest since you have proof in print.

Well that was how the conversion would take place... I dont know why you think Im doing something nefarious? I never gave that notion, and if I did at some point, it wasnt on purpose.

Im going to ask them what the oil recommendations are, how it will be driven and the excerpt about severe usage etc.

60k isnt cheap for a car that isnt worth that. everything is expensive, I dont have money to just throw away, so I like to try and maintain adherence to what we're told to do.
So again, do you think Toyota collects oil samples and sends them for analysis, then denies a warranty claim if the proper viscosity isn't used? Really?

Could you not sue the crap out of them? As the manuals outside U.S allows XYZ + ABC oils with same engine. Theoretically.

It would NEVER come to that. Laws in the US allow people to service their own vehicles. Sorry, not sure about Scandinavia. But I doubt Toyota there would pull crap like denying warranty over oil viscosity.

My plan for tomorrow is to change the oil on our 2017 Prius V. This is technically a fourth generation Prius. Our car calls for 0w-20 but Toyota changed that to 0W-16 towards the end of fourth generation production. This begins the dilemma. Compounding that I have both 0W-20 and 0W-16 Premium Plus on hand. This car is basically a grocery getter when I am not there with my PHEV or a 30 mile per day driver when the aging MIL needs to go to one of her doctors.

The 0w-16 I have on hand was planned for a 2023 Prius that calls for 0W-16. This car is a ten mile per day daily driver that sees an occasional 25 mile day. It might see a road trip once or twice a year. I am thinking of ordering some 0W-12 HPL Premium Plus for this car if and when they announce another sale.

I will be sleeping on this making a decision tomorrow. Keep in mind that Toyotas in Japan have been running thinner oils for a decade.

Who is it calling exactly?
Think your car needs a new phone line, have you tried giving it global access ?
