Oil Selection for 2015 GTI?

504 is totally acceptable in place of 502 in most situations. Per the 2018+ engine service manual, 504/508 is for flexible service (vehicles with OLM enabled) or first world countries with good gas. 502 is for fixed service (no OLM) and countries with poor quality fuel and in the case of those first world countries with fixed service, it says you can use either.

The same section also implies that you can use 504/502 in place of 508, for the same reasons, they all meet the standards that matter for keeping the engine alive (assuming you're not putting a 508 in an engine that requires 504/502), your sticker might just say something else because of fuel economy regs or OPF/GPF requirements.

This is why some dealers will just use bulk 504 now, it fits the broadest number of cars (basically everything but some older diesels and the high output audi 4.0T stuff) so it cuts down on the extra barrels sitting around.

Well, ended up punting on my friend's oil change - we got the car lifted and went to pull the drain plug, only to find out that the last place he got his oil changed at (Jiffy Lube) stripped out his oil pan and Loctited some sort of mystery bolt in there, then just didn't tell him about the problem and sent him on his way ☹️

Why people use these places is just beyond me...

I also wonder how these places make any money paying for all the repairs from stuff they destroy.

Wondering if oil change companies even understand the oil specifications and approvals for the cars they service, and the quality of the oil they use?

I think he may be SOL on a repair compensation, the last change was a year ago and I'm guessing they're going to tell him to pound sand and say he can't prove they did it.
I hope he pursues it. I mean a lot of people, majority probably, never get under their car and often go a year before they change their oil, so pretty common for issues like this to not be noticed until a year later. I'd be throwing a fit there.

Just another reason to apply for your man card and change your own oil...
Agree. We have at least one member I know here who is 87 and still gets under his car and changes his own oil. Something for us all to aspire to.

My Dad is 90.
I have to fight with him to get under the **** car.
He still wins...

My 90yr old Dad just rebuilt the B&S engine for the 1968 "18 Sportlawn Toro reel mower he's owned forever because he was bored.
Do any of you ever feel like the most gigantic pussies knowing full well you'll never end up being half the man your father is?

I do.
The guy is a monster.
The sweetest best monster ever born...

Get an oil extractor and change oil and filter from above.
