I agree, valve adjustment may be needed.

I run 5w30 pennzoil ultra with 10k oci and 186k on the odo in my fathers 93 accord, no consumption issues or ticking, runs like a dream.

I am pretty sure the valves were not ever adjusted on my Civic, but they were not too far off according to the mechanic. It did quiet some of the engine noise when cold.

Gah, had the valve clearances adjusted last winter on the VX(supposed to be done every 15,000 miles per the manual)...they are noisy as ever still...either that or the injectors are chattering away.
