Back to the "good old days"

What brand(s) did you see used when you were a kid?
What did you use in your first set of wheels?

My Dad always used QS SAE 30 in everything.
I jumped ship in the mid 80's with motorcraft 10w-40 in a 72 Ford Maverick "Grabber"(remember the old round, gold-ish colored quart bottles?

I also remember some Gulfpride straight 30 sitting on his shelf.

I have a couple cans in my garage..

I remember using a lot of QS SuperBlend, Wolf's Head and Oilzum, in various weights.

Didn't really think about oil too much back then...

Oilzum was made by the White Bagley Co in Worcester,Mass.
I still have a few cans of grease and bottles of gear oil that were left here years ago.
From what i have been told by old timers it was a well respected oil.

My first car in Germany 1973 was filled with U.S. Army 30w in green cans that came from the post along with some pirated gas coupons that we could use at esso stations with a wink from the owner.
Aral 15w-40 was my first retail oil.

I was a huge Al Jr fan when I started driving, so I used Valvoline 10w-40 with a push on spout. My dad had a deal with Oldsmobile dealer in town and we had 3 of them that I did the oil changes on. I wish I would have kept a quart. I did run Castrol (dont remember the grade )in my MG because my man at that garage demanded it.

My dad switched from Pennzoil to QS because QS didn't smell as bad when the ran onto the header from leaky valve covers! No Lie!I started out using Castrol GTX 10w40.

One day it will be..."they used to use 5w-30" back then.

I can remmember my Dad used Quaker State Deluxe, cant remmeber the weight, I think it was 10w30. Very bad on oil changes, maybe once a year or so. Alot of sludge under the valve covers, I dont blame the oil. Still got over a 100,000 miles out of all his Buicks though. They rusted out before they blew up. He would only use Pennzoil in the Detriot diesels, Pennzoil with Z-7. When I started driving and bought my first new car, I used Amoco Gold, it came white bottles, I used to buy it at K mart buy the case. Lee oil filters.

My dad used Castrol GTX 10w40. My grandfather used Quaker State 10w40.

My grandfather was a frugal man...from Germany. He use to change the oil in the old Ford station wagons every 5-6k miles and then use the drained oil for bar lube on the chainsaw or in the lawnmower....also kept a really small quirt bottle of clean oil to lube things like hinges, draws, tools, etc.
