I recently installed a rebuilt 302 in my 90 Bronco. I utilized Mobil Drive Clean 10w30 conventional oil (I had some on hand) during the break in period (500 miles, as per man. specs). I ran conventional oil for the next 1000 miles(Exxon Superflo 10w30), changed it and have been using Mobil 1 10w30 ever since, with Motorcraft filters. I also recently had a used oil analysis conducted and ,based on the results, the lab indicated that the average OCI for engines similar to mine is 3500-5000 miles, maybe longer. I average 6000-8000 miles per year which equates to 2 oil changes every 6 months. I don't know if it would want to push the limit and do a once a year oil change with Mobil 1.
I've been reading that the newer conventional conventional oils are almost as good as the synthetics. This being the case, I'd like some feed back on my possibilities for conventional conventional oils. I'm trying to base my decision on facts and not so much on personal / brand preference. I've been visiting the used oil analysis forum, but it's hard to find a used oil analysis similar to my situation,as I'd like to be able to make a accurate comparison. Does anyone have any suggestions based on used oil analysis for oil in 10w30 (Motorcraft, Exxon Super Flo,Mobil EP, etc)? I'm sure there are others. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
