Im wondering everyones thoughts on a good flowing winter oil for my 94 f150 with a 302 and 165,000 miles. I am running rotellat4 10w30 now and i am concidering the t5 semi synthitic or Mobil 1 full shthectic but am concered about leaks. Mayne someone has a better suggestion. I currently have no oil consumption

If its in good shape and not prone to knocking = Quaker state 5w30. No need for synthetics. Believe in the green bottle.

Since you like the Rotella, perhaps simply go with some 5w30...that will take care of the colder temps and keep the additives close, if not the same.

Part of the reason for wanting a partial synthetic for winter time is to make the oil flow better when it's cold because I know these trucks have oil pumps that fail saving little stress on the oil pump

Ive run Amsoil 5w30 HDD in my truck with great success. Wicked cold start performance and great level of zddp for the older engine.

If it leaks on Synthetic you have a problem on the near horizon anyway. Go with a blend like Valvoline Max-life in 5w30.

Nah. Just use one or the other.

I have the same engine in my Bronco. I'm running 5w30 Motorcraft synthetic blend. Quality oil at a reasonable price.

It's what my 1993 F-150 4x4 gets

I've never seen a 302 oil pump fail. What I have seen is the hex-drive shaft for the pump fail (twist like a liquorice stick), but that was using like 20w-50 in a Canadian winter.

My personal favourite for any Ford Windsor application is Mobil 1 0w-40, but Castrol 0w-40 would be a drop-in replacement if more available/less expensive.

I have also seen the hex drive fail on Fords going back to the days big FE motors ... Always err on the side of the pump drive surviving. Out here in Cali, 15w40 is good enough. Anywhere, there are real winters, 0W or 5W are mandatory ...

By the way, you can replace the hex drive with a long allen wrench cut down, the likes of "Un-Break-O" brand or Snap-On, etc. You have to make it yourself. But once in, it is good for the duration. Learned that one the hard way racing 406 FE's ...

Yes, ARP also makes a drop-in replacement that is essentially bulletproof
