A)Is Pennzoil Platinum European 5w-40 real or myth?
Several conversations with Pennzoil and Shell help desks revealed that they knew nothing of this oil or where to get it.
One individual from Shell desk was somewhat helpful, but shortly into the conversation I realized any info from these folks is tainted as they are really just Public Relations people reading from scripts and only ad-libbing between corp orately approved boundaries.
Here are the three most telling highlights:
1. Resolutely refutes that PPEuropean is a "re packaging" of Helix Ultra or similar variants.
2. Swears PPEuropean does still have "adaptive molecules"
3. Neither Shell/Pennzoil/QuakerState distributors for Baltimore,MD or Washington, DC had even heard of PPEuropean or how to get it.
4. Was told that it was available at Jiffy Lube, but found that JiffyLube used QuakerState European blend, NOT PPEuropean for German cars.
5. I was told Pennzoil generally was generally designed to be more heat resistant and Quaker State was generally designed for more horsepower...
6. NAPA, Autozone, Advanced, PepBoys, Walmart were all ignorant to PPEuro or how to get it.
B) Amsoil 5w-40 European looks like a great oil, and I'd consider buying it, but why do they make it so hard?
There could be an agent/dealer/distributor living right next door to me but since Amsoil refuses to post a comprehensive listing of representatives there's no way I'd ever know! Agents/dealers are left to fight among themselves for visibility. It is as if Amsoil is content to collect the temporary sign-up fee from individuals pay to get a discount and not really work to build a stable and visible distribution network. I've purchased Amsoil off and on over the last 20 years and it's no better today. A rag-tag collection of farmers, retiree's and auto enthusiasts scattered about overlapping and not really advancing at all.
More like running on a treadmill - always there, moving and selling but not any real advancement.
Thank goodness they keep the product up. It's like everyone involved is happy with the $$ the money they are making and don't want to re-invest in sales or marketing as if they are tainted practices.
