I've heard this clatter story before, but on a different engine. Did you went back to Mobil 1 or kept going with Valvoline Advanced?Well, I have been a longtime exclusive Mobil 1 user, well about 30 years. It’s never done me wrong and I haven’t had any issues with any of the motors I’ve used it in. That being said, I change the oil everytime I purchase a car, usually once a year or more, and I have noticed that quite a few get a lot more “clattery” after the change. Just recently I purchased a Hemi Durango that you couldn’t tell was running when I bought it. Drove it 5 hours home, pulled it in the driveway to show the wife and she asked why I shut it off, she wanted me to rev it. It was still running. I then did my oil change to Mobil 1 and you would have swore I engine swapped a small diesel. We drove about 3000 miles like that and it was getting to me. I messaged the person I got it from and asked him what he was using and was told “Valvoline full synthetic”. I picked up some Valvoline Advanced and changed it immediately. I’m happy to report the clatter went away completely. I was just at the gas station and had to put my ear to the front grill to hear that it was still running. Very impressed with Valvoline currently and plan to switch all my vehicles on the next change.
are you running 0w30 in your CX-5?or a 0w30.
I have run M1 AFE 0w30, but right now I'm running QS FS 5w30. I'm planning to run M1 ESP 0w30 for my next OCI.are you running 0w30 in your CX-5?
Have you noticed a slight drop in MPG with 0w30 AFE?I have run M1 AFE 0w30, but right now I'm running QS FS 5w30. I'm planning to run M1 ESP 0w30 for my next OCI.
Well, this just happened about two weeks ago. I plan to stay with Valvoline Advanced moving forward on all of my vehicles.I've heard this clatter story before, but on a different engine. Did you went back to Mobil 1 or kept going with Valvoline Advanced?
No, I've tried the M1 AFE 0w30, and 5w30 in QS FS and PP FS and none have hurt my MPG.Have you noticed a slight drop in MPG with 0w30 AFE?
Oh nice you were able to get Mazda Moly, I don't think it's available here in Canada, only in US from what I read online. Curious if its similar formulation like Toyota oil with high moly, not sure if its still is...No, I've tried the M1 AFE 0w30, and 5w30 in QS FS and PP FS and none have hurt my MPG.
For a little background, I used Mazda moly 0w20 for the first 60k miles, then Castrol Edge 0w20 for about 15k miles. After that I started experimenting with Xw30s.
It was made for Mazda by Idemitsu and had a higher moly content but since it's a GF-5 oil it seems kinda dated now. I think I read somewhere that Mazda has a GF-6 oil available but I don't know anything about it.Curious if its similar formulation like Toyota oil with high moly, not sure if its still is...
Right? Maybe I should pay a few bucks more and stick to Magnatec 0w20, the intelligent molecules seems to work great....All the more reason not to change a thing.
Seems Valvoline is the new hype, with a good dose of Moly in it, Advanced is very popular and often on sale at WM.Well, I have been a longtime exclusive Mobil 1 user, well about 30 years. This! ^^^^The real issue here isn’t the oil you’re using, it’s whether you’re draining and filling your coolant every 4 years/40k km, and changing the diff, trans, brake and other fluids on time as well!
I do think 40k km for coolant is overkill, I drive 40k km per year. I changed it in reference to owners manual which states 196k km or so, which is reasonable for my application and climate I'm in. Although, this post was about 0w20 for oil geeks like usThis! ^^^^

I also agree that is overkill for coolant changes. I just did the first coolant change on my 2016 Civic a month ago, at 266,000 km. I am getting the coolant in my 2018 Corvette changed for the first time next week, it has 107,000 km on it. Modern coolant lasts way longer than the stuff from 30+ years ago.I do think 40k km for coolant is overkill, I drive 40k km per year. Agree. I'm at the point now where I do a drain and fill after 75K. Then again at 100K, then every 30K after that.I also agree that is overkill for coolant changes. exactly, and I have the OEM, durable stuff, which is roughly 30-35$ a gallon CAD. I never needed to add any in 220 000 km since the car in brand new, mostly highway driving, winter and summer. I use OEM Mazda stuff though always.I also agree that is overkill for coolant changes. I just did the first coolant change on my 2016 Civic a month ago, at 266,000 km.
