Oil filters as a suppressor threads

Many dumb aspects of US firearms laws, suppressors are such a minimal threat to anyone. Many countries have no problem with them and are viewed as beneficial for minimizing annoying noise and hearing problems.

No they're not. They are legal in 38 of the 50 states, with the proper paperwork. The adapter is considered to be a suppressor, and subject to the same laws and regulations. Not every state is KALIFORNIA; thank goodness...

Not sure where you get your information but the filter is not serialized only the adapter. So yes you can easily switch out the filter,

Where'd you get the idea that it's just for .22LR ?

Seems pretty effective on other calibres that are a LOT more noisy.

I am glad to see one of these post not get locked for a change. Before every time one of these came up it got locked, because people assumed it was illegal.

No maybe they got "locked" up because they were repeating something that was already posted.

Since this thread is a repeat its being merged into a common thread.

3) making a "silencer" at home from scratch without a federal license nor registering the product is a federal crime that has a very long penality that includes both time and money
4) owning a legally produced and procured "silencer" (suppressor) is possible in many states (I own two), but you must get them via a long process which includes much federal paperwork
5) there are other forums here and at other sites that you can find out about how to legally obtain these products

We do not encourage illegal acts on this site; we discourage such attempts and restrict such information exchange.

Case closed.

Actually considering getting one. Anyone else.
You can get some for as little as 15.00 on amazon. solvent oil catcher

This is really cool had no idea these existed!

Does anyone know how long they last? I suppose if you don't dent the filter it should last a very long time. I imagine accuracy and velocity are impacted but how does that compare to a "normal" suppressor?

We will cut it open after and see if there are torn pleats...

JRod is correct; it is a violation of federal law for the owner to change the filter. It must be done by Cadiz--here from their website:

Quote:
If or when you need to change the filter out, the ATF/NFA rules says it needs to come back to the original manufacture, which Cadiz Gun Works is. The cost is $25.00. The complete Econo-Can Suppressor can be shipped directly to us, for gunsmithing, which would be replacement/rehab/repair of the oil filter, with the serial # remarked, and documented as being replaced/rehabbed/repaired. The completed Econo Can Suppressor can be sent back to you at your address on your NFA Tax Stamp Form. You do not need to go though a dealer for gunsmithing services.
