No filter manufacturer will say to run their oil filters past the recommended vehicle manufacturer's recommendation.

In those days, it was considered a premium filter. Probably not so much anymore.

Holy cow! Why did you? Guess it was to no detriment. What was the media made of back then?

AMSOIL does say just that. Their Warranty applies 'when properly installed and used for the period of service life recommended by AMSOIL INC. or the engine or equipment manufacturer.'

For the individual filters service life it says:

Service Life
When used in conjunction with AMSOIL synthetic motor oils, AMSOIL Ea Oil Filters are guaranteed for extended service life:

Ea Filters designated with product code Ea15K are recommended for 15,000 miles/one year, whichever comes first, in normal or severe service.
Ea Filters designated with product code EaO are recommended for 25,000 miles/one year, whichever comes first, in normal service or 15,000 miles/one year, whichever comes first, in severe service.

Good old Amsoil

I love that word "recommended". Doesn't sound very binding.
You can find Amsoil's warranty here.. https://www.amsoil.com/lit/Warranty_Filters.pdf

I notice it says their filters are warrantied as long as the service life does not exceed Amsoil's recommendation in writing OR the OEM's service life recommendation.
Does this not mean that no Amsoil filter is warrantied beyond the OEM service life recommendation?

Their warranty also states what they will do to rectify the situation should one of their filters fail.
It states...

"replace the defective filter or issue a credit to the Consumer's account for the price of the replacement filter; and (2) at the option and cost of AMSOIL, repair
or replace components to the extent the damage was solely attributable to a defect in the AMSOIL filter"

I notice it says "at the option of Amsoil"
Sounds to me like they take no responsibility for damage to your engine should one of their filters fail.

"OR the OEM's service life recommendation" means if the OEM recomendation is shorter than Amsoil's recommendation, then the OEM recomendation takes control.

So this is really no different than any other big brand name oil filter warranty.

Do you guys really pretend you don't know what "or" means? That is hilarious. Guy makes a blanket statement no filter mfr recommends beyond auto makers owners manual. But AMSOIL does.

No it does *not* mean that whichever the shorter applies. It means that for filters that give a service life, that number i.e. 25,000 applies, it is guaranteed for 25,000 miles. It is clear none of you guys has studied law, or formal logic either for that matter. (A or B) is true if either A is true, or B is true. A is "driven less than 25,000 on this " miles, B is "driven to the mileage in the owner's manual on this filter". Hilarious.

Amsoil Filter Warranty Statement:
https://www.amsoil.com/lit/Warranty_Filters.pdf

WHAT THIS LIMITED WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER

The 4th bullet point says:
Failure of equipment when the wrong filter is used or the correct filter is used beyond the service life recommended
in writing by AMSOIL INC. or the original equipment manufacturer ("OEM")
.

If the OEM recommended use period is 10,000 miles or 1 year, but Amsoil says it's recommendation is good "UP TO" 20,000 miles, then as soon as you hit the OEM recommendation of 10,000 miles you are done. If you ran an Amsoil filter to 20,000 miles when the OEM said the limit was 10,000 miles, then Amsoil will not honor their warranty. It's no different than any other filter warranty that states to follow the OEM use recommendations.

"OR" means which every condition occurs first is what determines what happens.

Give Amsoil a call at the number in the warranty statement (715-392-8324) and ask them.

It's interesting they don't cover normal wear and tear, so unless there is a catastrophic filter failure that causes the engine to be damaged, you can't come along 300,000 miles later and say my vehicle wore out sooner because your filter didn't filter well enough. All of which makes sense of course but in all my years of driving and all the filter changes I've done I've never experienced an engine failure due to a filter failure from any brand I've ever purchased.

No CDN law, eh?

"Image result for magnuson moss warranty act canada
The Consumer Protection Acts in each province are the Canadian equivalent to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. The law in Canada also states that a manufacturer cannot require a consumer to use OEM parts under the threat of voiding warranty.May 25, 2015"

You laugh at others yet you don't know squat yourself.

You tout warranties thinking you will be 100% protected/compensated if you run into problems.

Like I have said to you before, good luck with any of those supposed warranties.

Because................ as an aircraft mechanic, we ALWAYS cut open oil filters.
Been doing it since the 1980's. Champion aircraft makes a nifty tool to do it.

I started cutting oil filters on this truck a few years prior, and just never saw much of anything inside.

I felt there was a possibility that changing an oil filter on every oil change was a waste of money........ and I was right.

I posted pictures of a filter here that is laden with carbon.
https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/u...artridge-filter-13-000-miles#Post4915835
It was run for far less than twice what the OLM told me go. Should I have used that filter another 2 or 3,000 miles? I don't think so. I have cut many filters open and not until this high mileage ecotec engine have I seen carbon like this in the pleats of the media. Some engines don't seem to produce any while others do. I would not consider changing the filter every oil change a waste of money.
