recently got 94 dakota p.u., 3.9 v-6. doing 2nd oil change at 220k miles, prob. p.o. changed every 15k, thinking semi-syn. or full syn. reasonable price, thoughts on filter and oil? will probably run 7k or so. thanks! no current burns or leaks noticed.

Purolator Pure One or Bosch Premium would be a good bang for buck filter.

So would Mobil 1 and K&N Filters, but they cost more.

I would do a 5k mile OCI with something like a Puro Classic or Wix and see how much sludge you can clean out with a good synthetic like the very reasonable Q State HP line.

I think a common filter like that you should be able to find an ST 16. There is very little evidence more expensive filters are any better.

If you have enough clearance, run a Purolator Pure One PL3001, regulator Purolator L3001, or Wix 51515. That's the full-length version of the "shorty" used on many Mopar LA-block engines. You pick up about a half quart of oil volume and double the filter area over the shorty.

As for oil, Valvoline MaxLife has served well in my Dad's 92 Dakota 5.2. But pretty much any of them will do. I like the Mobil One lineup, so I'd probably go that way personally. I'd do a few short OCIs during clean-up, then forget about it.

Just a minor correction: It's the 30001, not the 3001.

WIX/QS Syn/5K OCI > Excellant choice.
