Oil for 02’ Dodge Dakota

3 questions.
How hot does the oil get?
What's your expected coldest start temperature?
Is it a daily driver and going to have the oil changed multiple times a year or is it going to be driven occasionally and have 1 oil change per year or less?

PA winters haven’t been bad lately. No idea on oil temp. Truck will get miles out on it as I have the 11’ Ford Focus too. I’d probably go 4-5k on HPL lube and sample. Then decide

Honestly, I’d go with maxlife syn blend on a car that age. I imagine the seals are brittle and tired even though the truck has relatively low miles. The car was designed with conventional in mind so I’m sure it can live a healthy life on maxlife. Since it sounds like it’ll be used as a secondary vehicle, I don’t think HPL and extended drains really make much sense here.

Well, it has rotella T5 blend 10w30 SM in it and I have 5 more gallons. Also a jug of restore and protect 5w30

If it were mine I'd just run a 10w30 synthetic and roll with it year round. I haven't seen single digit temps in my part of PA in years.

That Delvac 5w40 would also be a nice stout oil that you could also use in the winter. The T5 or blend 15w40 could be used without issues IMO. Basically use up what ya got.

Since it would be an occasional use driver, you might not even drive it much in the cold and salt/snow muck.

I’ve decided I’ll alternate between truck and Focus in warmer months and maybe once or twice week in winter.
