Wix Filter Rusted Through

Little thing was probably screaming to get off that engine since its too small for that big boy.

Very odd. given the pristine label condition, and that any weeping would nip corrosion in the bud.

Very odd.

That was my first thought as well, but I couldn't understand how it would not leak for 8 months and then be catastrophically leaking all the sudden.
There have been other instances of Wix filters seeping at the base seam reported here. Possible that it will take awhile to start seeping due to the heat cycling and pulsations going on during use. If yours also has rust, that probably could be a factor also.

Sheesh, another defective Wix. Did Mann completely gut their QC? What's the production date on it?

Sad that Chinese made Denso FTF filters seem to be the best quality aftermarket filter now...

I had issues with the seam of my Wix 57899 XP last year. It was not crimped right (see thread.)
They replaced it quickly and nicely, but I'm still not sure what I want to order for replacements (that I need very soon.)

Well, just to close the loop on this I did reach out to Wix. Sent them photos and description of what happened. They asked for the date code on the filter, which I provided (February of 2023). Never heard back after that. I'll probably still keep using Wix but will definitely inspect the filter for signs of failure more regularly now...
