Has anyone experienced their main seals leaking a little when using Wix filters? My '97 Quest did and now my '06 Malibu. I just did an OC that was the second OCI with Wix in the Malibu. The leak is not enough to notice on the dip stick or drip on the ground, but enough to notice on the oil pan below each of the seals. I've also even noticed a little oil at the top of both the oil filter connection piece and the block; above where the filter connects to connection piece so it is not coming from the filter seal, nor from the fill cap area.

I agree that Wix filters do filter well, but I wonder what is the impact on oil pressure and oil flow.

The oil that reaches the engine's crankshaft main seals is AFTER the oil filter ... so if the filter was really the cause, then it's flowing better and allowing MORE oil pressure to occur when the pump is at max pressure output. I can't imagine any huge differences in filter's flow that could make that much oil pressure difference due to just a filter brand change.

What filter were you running before the switch to WIX? Do you have an oil pressure gauge in the car?

Maybe something is going haywire with the oil pump's pressure regulator? Maybe it's pure coincidence and the seals are going out due to age/mileage?

Coinincidence yes, oil filter NOT possible! Main seal leaks are one of the most common leaks on the road besides valve gaskets. Run some ARX through that thing. Or you could be trendy and blindly through in some MMO like all of the current fan boys do!

The oil filter can not cause a rear main seal leak. The Wix are nothing special as far as filtering ability but they are a well made filter.

I sold the Quest 3 years ago and the seeping stopped when I used Purolator filters; OE filters cost too much and Nissan dealerships were out of ther way.

I just did an OC on the Malibu and installed an AC Delco OE filter. I'll see if the wipe marks I made through the seep areas have oil on them on the next OC. It baffled me also, but too much of a coincidence because the oil areas did not exist before using Wix and seemed to be wetter after using Wix. Without a gauge I can't tell if the pressure increased or decreased with Wix.

Seals can leak "all of a sudden". It happens all of the time and most people are not as attentive as you so they have no clue as to when it started. It's all in your head. Not sure if you know how an oiling system works, but it's just not possible for a filter to do this. Not trying to come off condescending.

When I owned the Quest, I changed the PCV valve every 1-2 years. The Malibu has the GM great design to create business thru dealership visits: the intake manifold has to be removed to access the PCV valve.

I don't know about the Malibus, but by two-years old, my Blazer seeped oil everywhere, and I had to switch back to conventional oil to keep the puddles off the garage floor.

That would be my thought too.
