Bought a Mustang GT 98 2 week ago, finally weekend and have time doing oil change, First oil change always a nervous for me. The drain plug came out easy, and the oil pan thread is perfect. Now come to the filter. I first use the cup type, it fix perfectly, but it wont turn, I back out a little bit and try again and again, finally it strip.
second try I use the Clamp type , it bent up the filter, so I like WTH, I keep going at it. it wont move . then the clamp went in too far, it poke a hole. at the point, I stick in a long screw drive in and it still wont move.
My last tool is the 3 claw spint type. But its in my brother house, 25 min away, I drove there and brought back the tool, put the claw on the filter and after a while try find a grip and fighting with it, its finally turn, but I use every strenght i got to spint it loose
the IDIOT install the filter, must not apply any oil on the gasket, and tight down with 100ft of torque
, the gasket on the old filter was so push in, its so thin , that how I know who ever install the filter , must use the tool to tight it. also I can tell my the damage on the filter base.
this champ must be an ecore version, cause I saw the plastic cage, like the ecore ac delco back then.
replace it with FL820S ( oil on gasket
) and its feel like home. Car start up with zero noise and engine is smooth like before lol.
I change countless oil filter and never in my life encounter this situation, never have to use the 3 claw type before on any oil filter. This is the first.
