Oil blotter test

I did both vehicles today. I was sure to wipe any soot off both dipsticks first. Neither car has consumed any oil on this oc.

@2500 miles on STP oil one blot has has a dark gray ring around the center spot and the donut is clear. 214,000 miles on the car.

@3800 miles on Pennzoil HM this blot has a light gray ring around the center spot but the donut is a little darker. 119,000 miles on this car.

Otherwise, both look normal for engines with no mechanical problems.

Which oil is cleaning best?

Both oils have detergents in them,both oils will keep the internals clean,as long as your follow what interval is listed in the owners manual.

I do the one drop test at 7K and then again at 10K when I change oil. Both always look very good according to the examples In the link provided below.
