I flat out dont have the anwers but Vanguards blowing up is rare. Sounds like you got some good life out of it. I have one myself so I have been following along closely. Maybe it was just time for it to go??? I dont know and Im not an oil expert nor a mechaical person. I will stay tuned and wish you the best because I know this hurts.

It's been a while since I've torn into any small engine ... and I've never torn into one that had an oil filter so folks that work on these, please chime in.
There are some engines with an oil pump and filter that sling for lubrication and pump to filter .Cheap and really isn't the best it is like a bypass system in an old car .
