OG Wire Backed Fram Ultra XG7317 73,000 miles

.
73k.. Wow .. This is a record for this forum and probably most anywhere I believe.. hehe

How were the adbv's in both of these XG's you posted today ?

I kept drain and refills at 6K miles instead of 8K miles due to the construction zone driving.

Once Brendan dries the media we can see how much dirt was trapped in the pleats.

Fumoto valve on this engine made the drain & refills very easy.
I always drained the oil when it was hot…. maybe an hour after driving on highway.

Thats very impressive. This makes me want to build a flow test jig and have filters sent to me before they’re put through an autopsy review. I’d love to compare the flow rates side by side with a new filter of the same.

I think the "Various sale clearance oils used" is also a sin to many here.
It could be a bigger sin, had you used whatever viscosity was cheaper, anything from 0w20 to 20w50 - whatever was on clearance.

There would be a really wonderful opportunity to see how well these vehicle filters perform after 50,000 miles.

The strange thing is that I think only the folks here could make something like that happen.

Filter sent to me by @Dave Hess

Fram Ultra XG7317 with 73K miles (12 drain & refills) off a 2018 Mazda CX5 2.5L non turbo engine. Various sale clearance oils used and was driven in construction zone daily so should have sand and grime inside.”

overall this filter was extremely clean with only small carbon chunks in the base end. the media is currently wicking with some blue shop towels and i will update this post in a week.

If it's not got any leaks and the air filter is secure this is to be expected! I'm impressed by the willingness to go that many intervals, no try start to worry about as the filter wasn't removed. I WOULD be worried had this been in a high snow and salt environment as I have seen a couple of filters rust out. Great pictures!

To each, his own. However, even when oil is changed often as to now allow the filter to have excessive build up of debris....I can't help but wonder that the adhesives in the filter, the bypass valve, or even the media itself wouldn't have some sort of degradation over that length of time / miles.

At 55K miles I installed a new air filter. The ‘dirty’ side of air box had lots of sand so I was expecting to see sand inside the filter after Brendan cut it open.

I vacuumed all the sand, got damp paper towels and wiped the air box so it was spotless….. not just install the new air filter.

I will see the car next week and take a photo of sandy engine bay due to the construction zone driving.
