Odyssey or other AGM?

Two days ago, I watched a yt video of how to install a very small circuit board in an under hood fuse box to trick it into charging at a little higher Voltsge so the Plates of an AGM battery will not sulfate up and significantly shorten battery life.

TF, you might want to look up the availability of that F150 AGM battery Voltage boost board, and the yt videos about installing it.

Voltage doesn’t seem to be an issue as much as Ford’s Battery Monitoring System (BMS) algorithm along with an undersized battery. Most people are fine by increasing the state of charge parameters with ForScan to 90% or 95%. The BMS doesn’t even demand a charge until it’s too late into the drive cycle. If you drive less than 15-20min regularly, you’ll often end up with a BMS message like I’ve had. Going from an H6 with roughly 760CCA/70ah capacity to an H8 with 900CCA/95ah capacity greatly increases the wiggle room too.

However, in my previous Toyota Tacoma I did have to mess with the charging voltage by using a diode in place of the Alt-S fuse to increase charging voltage from 14.1 to 14.6. Worked well for that truck. But the F150 has been known to charge up to 14.9v, just the BMS combined with a small battery isn’t enough.

Sign up for their emails or keep checking their website. I got my 2 Odyssey batteries for 20% off. But sometimes there are rules. One of them I had to order online and ship to home. Picking up in store wouldn't give me the discount. The other I was able to pick up in store. For the record, I got a 24 and a 35.
Welp, you must have made the Napa discount fairy’s ears ring. A Napa Email came through this morning for 20% off…. So that made up mind, I’ll be picking up my Odyssey battery tomorrow. Saved $84!! Can’t wait to get the undersized H6 Motorcraft battery outta this truck to not get the annoying “Remote features disabled to preserve battery” messages anymore, also will be nice to have functioning approach lighting and dome lights again!

Who makes AC Delco? I've always had good service from them, and recently saw some great prices for them on Amazon.
Clarios. Luck of the draw which of their factories made it. I got a H8/Group 49 AC Delco "Made in Germany" from their Varta factory and is still going strong at 7 years.

Nice man. Glad it worked out! I got the same email but... I don't need a battery and I hope I won't need one anytime soon! Replaced 4 batteries since October 2023.

Oof! That gets expensive fast!! I’ll need another battery come spring for my Victory Cross Country. Dang battery tender came unplugged at some point and I already tried to recover the Yuasa battery without luck. Probably go with another Yuasa since it’s served me well in the past for powersports batteries. Though I saw Odyssey makes a battery for that application as well, so we’ll see which route I go for that.

Well, battery got shipped to another store by accident and won’t be here till Tuesday now. No biggie since the current battery is still functional, but I’m mildly annoyed.

Check your local stores for discounts though. My store does 20% off the 2nd Saturday of each month and from 0800-0900 it’s 30% off. I don’t think all stores do this, but it’s worth asking. My store said it works on everything except some special order items, but they didn’t give any examples. Ignore the expiration date too. I think that’s just if the specific store wants to run the program.

I bought the Odyssey battery for my car from FCPEuro.
I'm planning to do the same when my Ferrari and M550ix are due. Might even do it on my E39 540. Too bad Odyssey doesn't make an H9 for my M550ix, but I can still use the H5 aux battery it needs.

Glad you got the odyssey. I’ve had several parts stores AGMs, and X2 and odyssey batteries are simply in a different league. If you can afford them they are great.

In my 2018, I believe I was able to squeeze an h9 in there.
Unfortunately neither Odyssey or X2 Power make an H9. In fact, I don't think X2 Power even makes an H8

You get the battery yet? The suspense is killing me! ;-)

I installed it about an hour ago! It was supposed to be here Saturday, but it got shipped to the wrong store 75 miles away, so it got here today. We’ll see if I get OTA updates now. lol Everything boots up faster and even the electric power steering is lighter which was unexpected. How Ford thought that an H6 was big enough for all the electrical demands on these trucks is beyond me. This is a major upgrade and I hope it lasts as long as my X2 did in my Tacoma (8yrs before trade-in and still fine) since it’s also an Enersys.

I ended up receiving the newest all black version that was built Oct 2025 also. Total cost after the 20% discount and battery core was $336.18.

Side Note - Yesterday I did some other maintenance as well. Installed a rear diff cover for easier drain and fills, serviced the front diff and transfer case. Used Amsoil 75w90 for the diffs and Amsoil Fuel Efficient ATF (Mercon LV) for the T-Case. Next up is transmission fluid and PPE transmission pan when all the parts arrive.

I think if I had an H9/95R requirement, I’d probably go Braille AGM. While I don’t know how their AGM batteries they seem to be a pretty solid company. I could be wrong, but I bet an Odyssey H8 would probably be plenty sufficient in most H9 applications while probably saving 5+ pounds.

That thing is huge! I thought the H7 was big that I put into my S4. My back would be crying!

When I put the Odyssey in my Impreza, the thing started like it is on speed! I was coming from a 500 (or 550) cca OEM flooded battery that was 6.5 years old to a 765cca AGM.
