I live with my vehicles anywhere from 5 to 12 years and many many miles.I just never had oils make a difference in idle quality.Cold start with improper weights I tell a definite difference. But otherwise thats about it.Amount of oil used between changes and such there is a difference,.Nut not in idle quality or noise and such.I think its like a placebo and imaginary.

I have had a similar experience going from M1 to PP in my GTO. Right now I'm counting down the miles until I can get it out of there.

That's because most people don't pay any attention to it....we're pretty nutty about it here though.

If I have not seen it before on a few other cars, I'd would not believe it either. I have the same car, but a bit newer and two doors instead of four, and it didn't have any issues with either PP or the Napa syn it has in it now.

Could be lots of factors: engine, driving style, location.....

Same here. After 25yrs of doing it for a living I just have not seen it.

I see this a lot here too and for me have never been able to tell any difference by changing oil brands/viscosities. I probably use bigger changes in viscosity than most as I will go from a 0W-30 syn. in winter to a 15W-40 dino in the summer in 2 of my cars. Outside of seeing a little difference on the oil pressure gauge thats about it.

I have had 6 cars (with two basic engines - (4) Nissan VQ30/35 and (2) Toyota 4.7 V8) that made noticeably more top end noise with M1 than dino oils of the same weight, but my UOA's are always good and my engines stay spotless inside so I stick with it.

I have had other cars with no noticeable difference.

Maybe it's just the engine itself...though-after reading some of the posts about noise-I listened to her car, and it is a bit louder...not much though.
