No question in my Tucson, QSAM 5/30 is noticeably smoother than anything else yet.

I hope you and Tyman understand that I was being sarcastic, as the Flat Earthers always come out and toss water on
any "oil perception" threads. tyman put a sad face response to my post; Maybe he didn't see my "jk".
Since I'm old, to clarify jk = just kidding or joking, correct?
We're good @ARCOgraphite no need to explain. (y) 🍻 ;)

You are correct wemay. QSUD 5-30 in my vehicles and hyundais is noticeably more quiet. A couple weeks ago I filled my Tucson 1.6 turbo with Quaker State 5-40 and it is even more quiet. I was amazed at the difference. I know a lot of people say this is hogwash but I genuinely can tell the difference. I love QS.

I hear your ARCO. I used to think the exact same thing. But it's true for me here. That is why ive made certain to specify "My vehicle" in this thread. It may be different for everyone else.
I don't know why, but QSUD (QSFS) 5W-30 is awfully smooth in my Chevy trucks. Like it.

My 2013 commuter AWD Equinox is receiving an oil change today. QSFS and an Fram XG9018 filter it is.

Kirkland, RGT and Magnatec are good in mine as well. :)

Note: I avoid vanilla M1 like the plague. Rough, bad juju...

I'm sure a 20W50 would be quieter than a 0W20 but I wonder about reduction in flow or some other negative I'm not aware of.

I also wonder about a blatantly louder engine when I use M1. 😁

It should not make a difference but now and then I have noticed that a engine will sound quieter and run smoother on a particular oil. I don’t have a answer but if you find yourself in that situation, stick with that oil.
PIM in my mind I can't see with all the differing formulations and VM loads and tower cuts why it WOULD NOT make a difference.
though you might think that with moly-coated skirts on most pistons nowadays differences would be less obvious.
Just that should get rid of piston "stick-slip" at turn around and cocking that can make a lot of racket.

I think a conversation with the old guys that formulated with group I lubricant would be eye opening.

QSUD 5w30 is the quietest oil I have come across for my car in terms of valvetrain chatter. Even quieter then redline as far as I could tell. What is it that makes this oil quiet? It can’t be moly solely because the redline 5w30 has way more moly right?

So as to avoid any confusion, this is QSAM (Quaker State All Mileage), ;) not the Full Synthetic.

Quaker State runs quite quiet in my car too.

Especially the high mileage QS 5w30.

Cam2 Superpromax 5w30 or Cam2 Dexos approved full synthetic runs quiet too. Mobil Super does too. And Havoline runs that way too.

However put Cam2 in the lady's 98 Camry.... Loud enough for Helen too hear it. Even my wife noticed it... Put Warren Distribution Federated Auto parts semi synthetic in there... Way way quieter.

Yes bbhero, it appears to be vehicle specific. Mobil Super Blend also ran quiet in my old 2.4L Hyundai.

Yeah it's a interesting phenomenon...

Mobil Super is a very good oil. One of our long time members on here ran Mobil Super like 12-15k miles and it held up extremely well.

Changed my mind today...

For the first time in this vehicle, I'm using SN-rated, Castrol Euro 0W-40 in my commuter Equinox with the notorious 2.4L 4-cyl engine. Mine has 149,000 miles on it.

And I thought QSUD 5W-30 quieted this engine...

Boy, this 4-cyl has never run so quietly and smoothly! Ever!

I truly believe this was the best car-related decision I've made in quite some time.

Is the valvetrain quieter? Do you notice any decrease in power with the increased viscosity?

I have a few thousand miles now on the high moly Idemitsu 0w20 and the engine is really quiet and smooth.

Both oils and engines have changed over our years. I remember the piston ashtrays that some friends had. Todays aluminium pistons with the short skirts are drastically different.

As many of you know, I've tried it all in the short time I've owned this vehicle and by far, the best oil for THIS Tucson, in terms of smoothness and quiet idle is Quaker State All Mileage 5w30. I used it once before but didn't want to get ahead of myself in the opinion.

Just wanted to share. It's been that good.
Hyundai's love that Quaker State. Every grade and flavor (conventional or synthetic) QS I've used has been buttery smooth and super quiet.

I don't know if it means anything or not but there are definitely differences in noise/vibration with different oils. Castrol, for example, got noisier and noisier as the OCI went on and eventually gave me startup noise I'd never had before TWICE at about 2700 miles.
