No pull on Civic ATF dipstick

I just checked the ATF fluid level for the first time, in preparation for an ATF drain & fill. I was surprised at how easy it was to pull the dipstick out of the tube. There was no tugging at all required. Quite frankly after 208,000 miles I'm surprised it hasn't toppled out yet.

Does the automatic generate any type of vacuum that will keep the dipstick in place, or is there something broken on the tube, or....?

Yeah - I've found that they come out pretty easily by pulling it out. Never had one pop out.

After posting this question, I found a Honda forum thread that had this exact discussion--and several said the same thing as myself.

I have read that there is a new dispstick out that I can get if it really bugs me, but evidently tens of thousands of miles doesn't knock these things out, so its just a matter of how much I'll worry about it. If I can manage to forget this, I'll probably just keep it in there....

Same with my 97 civic. It's not an issue, the dipstick will not pop out. I had a 94 accord and it was the same.

Having much experience (250k+ miles) with an 01Civic, normal finding. They come out easily but never had an issue with it not staying in place. If you're looking for some kind of snap or click, not happening. Just make sure it's fully inserted and drive on.

Great--I love the cheaper option (instead of buying a new one). I think I won't be worrying about this too much.

That's how all the Honda sticks are. They just sort of rest in the case. Never seen one dislodge, personally.

I have had quite a few hondas and all with AT - all go right in and rest. Never an issue, so happy motoring
