Not having a transmission dipstick Is not good.

I don't mind not having a dipstick provided the unit has a fill port you can get a funnel into and an easy to access drain plug. This isn't the case with the 4L30E of course.

It should be noted the new RAM with the 6 cylinder gas turbo motor doesn't have an oil dipstick.

Yeah, Toyota trans fluid fill and level services, Honda CVT services, etc. are a pain. IMO, there's no reason for it.
Well, of course there's a reason for it, but it only makes sense if you're an automaker. And when you view the question from their point of view, the logic is flawless.
The automaker wants one thing above all else, to sell you another car. So they obviously figure if they make the car hard to service, the do it yourselfer type owners will think twice about actually servicing it. I'm convinced it's the reason they went back to the stupid cannister type oil filters, along with deleting the ATF dipstick: to make the car harder to service. And every skipped service puts the car that much closer to the junk-yard which means, you HAVE to buy another car.
I'm of a mind that SOME ONE could design some kind of retro-fit type kit, with specially made parts that allow an easy way to check the ATF fluid level AND to change the ATF. And one that doesn't require crawling around under the car, the way you are forced to do now...but I'm not smart enough to be the guy that designs it.
