I always used a Motorcraft FL1A for my older Fords. I haven't replenished my stock recently so I haven't seen any new ones lately. One of the reasons I liked these FL1A's was the base end bypass valve. Was in Walmart this morning and the new ones now have the bypass valve on the top plate like all others. With the nitrile ADBV on the FL1A , I did not see any advantage to this model anymore. I ended up buying Fram PH8A's, same bypass location but atleast there was a silicone ADBV. Seemed the PH8A had more going for it at a slightly cheaper price.

Do you have the ability to show the difference between new and old?

That's one nice thing about the new cartridge type filters. You can always see exactly what you are about to install, and there isn't much room for variations.
Agreed
I have a VW now and you can't hide defects in a can...

"...the new..."
I believe they were 1st no?
I want the ADBV as I have the ThriftPower i6.
I had used fram in the past. Will go back to them
(till they change as guys in posts 3'n 7 show). Corporados
all ways lookin for savings, increased sales at lower production costs, etc

While Purolator makes MC filters, they are made to Motorcraft/FoMoCo specs. Afaik, the FL1A has always used a nitrile adbv. 'If' they have moved the bypass from the thread end to the dome end, 'I would think' that to be a MC/FoMoCo call or at least with their approval. My .02

Well, the simple answer is buy Donaldson oil filters...except they're on national back order. Out until June, presumably. I've called a number of fleet service shops and truck service shops and they're, just not there. I asked about getting put on the order list but they didn't seem confident about the June ETA I got from Donaldson. So I'll wait until closer to then and see if they have them back in national stock. If they do, I might have to hoard some. Crazy times we live in.

I currently have an M1-209 oil filter on my engine. My ex-BIL gave me a couple of them after he wrecked his Ford Ranger. It has the base plate bypass in it, which I prefer.
A few years ago, a BITOG member sent me a box of M1-209 (or 209-A) oil filters when I was doing charity OCI's. We used a few of them and donated the rest to my church.
Does anyone know what the difference is between the M1-209 and M1-209-A?

Just put me in the "spooked" column.

There were two (2) FL 820-S on my shelf with one going onto my Ranger very soon; so not really a stash by our standards.
An AA near me has always accepted products for exchange. Years ago I sold my sisters Jeep and realized it was the last vehicle in the family's fleet for which I had conventional oil in stock. They exchanged it for me.

I picked up replacement wiper blades (on sale) and a high priced oil change 'special'. 'Tell ya, they ain't so special lately.
