Hello All,

I have tried using the search feature but it was unsuccessful in finding the info I needed.

I am wondering if anybody has ever cut open a Nissan filter (part # 15208-9E000)? I have recently had the opportunity to buy these for $4.50 at a local dealership. I plan on using this in my '04 Infiniti G35 as well as my '06 Honda Pilot.

Are these Nissan filters worse or more superior (provide more or less filtering) to Honda OEM filters, WIX, Mobile1, K&N?

I run synthetic in my G35 and am switching the Pilot to synthetic after it hits 10k miles. I have cross checked the Fram catalog and saw that the Pilot and G35 use the same filter so I automatically assumed that the Nissan filter will fit the Honda s well.

So back to the original question...A) who makes Nissan filters B) Are they better or worse than a Honda filter? C) How long/how many miles can I safely keep a Nissan filter on the engine?

Thanks a bunch.

One thing I forgot to mention was that the reason I want to use the Nissan filter in the Honda was due to the price of $4.50 vs. the higher price of the Honda filter.

I hope someone can answer this because I am thinking about doing something. I crossed referenced my 2005 Accord V6 oil filter to a Nissan filter used on my 2006 350Z with the VQDE engine. I bought some filtech honda filters for bargain on the internet and was considering using them on the Z. Sorry that I didnt answer your questions Spartuss, but we appear to be looking for the same answer for a similar situation. Any info. will help.

I am 100% sure that you can use the Honda filter on the Nissan. But the question lyes in the quality of the Honda OEM vs. Nissan OEM.

I know the Nissan filter listed above is made in Japan and am confident in my assumtion that it is a quality product. Where is your Honda filter made? Is there any indication on the box of any name other than Honda who may produce this filter?

I cut open the OEM Nissan filter that was factory installed on my new Frontier- the internal construction was not impressive, it had cardboard end caps. I believe I took picture of both it and the next filter I used, which was a Wix 51356. Visually, the Wix just looked more like a quality filter. I will try to find and post the photos tonight.

I just cut open one of the 15208-9E000 filters that I bought from the Nissan dealer and found it differs from the one that was factory installed. The factory installed filter is labeled as part number 15208-31U01, and as noted in the earlier post, the factory installed filter had cardboard end caps as pictured below. However, the 15208-9E000 has metal end caps. Both filters have the by-pass valves on the closed end. Both filters are marked "made in Japan".

The pictures below are the factory installed 15208-31U01-

Here is a dated write-up and cut-up of the Nissan filter. I've never seen any technical filtering data on the Nissan filters, ever. Usually they are of excellent construction, although some have reported lately that they 9E000 filter has converted over to paper endcaps.

The Honda filters made by Filtech (15400-PLM-A01) are very good quality. The Honda filters made by Fram (15400-PLM-A02) are, well... Fram filters! Click on this link and scroll thru the links on the right side for photos of the A01 & A02 filters: Honda Filter Links

As far as filtering abiltiy, here is an old page regarding the "better" Filtech: Honda Spec

To each his own, but I use Wix 51356 now on my Nissan and Pilot, but will be coverting over to K&N's HP1010 on all vehicles as I've succumbed to the dark side of the flow is better force.

Thanks Roger for all the info. What type of Nissan and what year Pilot do you own?

Do you by any chanc eknow of any places online where to get the best price on oil filters online? Perhaps even Honda and Nissan OEM.

My '01 Altima and Maxima, as well as my '05 Pilot all take the same model oil filter. I could use the 9E000 or A01 on all three of those vehicles if I wanted. I've never seen a better price for the Nissan filter than the $4.50 price you quoted. That's a very good buy in my view. My Honda dealer wants $6.50 for the A01, which is about as good as it gets around here...and that assumes he's got the A01 in stock and not the A02. I bought the NAPA version of the Wix 51356 filters from the BIOG sponsor, Fleet Filter, for @$3.50 plus shipping. AJUSA.com has the best prices on K&N oil filters I've been able to find.

Yes, $4.50 is a great price. My friend actually works at a Nissan dealership and gets them for me at his employee discount price which comes out to $4.50. The same dealership sells Honda's as well. I've inquired about the emplyee pricing for the Honda filters and they come out to $1 and some chnage more than the Nissan filter, hence I went to a Nissan filter for the Honda as well.

The question still lyes in which filter is better when comparing Honda Filtech vs. Nissan OEM.

I bought my OEM Honda filters from http://www.handa-accessories.com/accint03.html. They have good price on a "six pack". But since my order, I noticed they changed pics of the filters. Honda has filters made by Filtech and by Fram. When I ordered, the pics showed "Filtech", now they dont show who makes it so be careful. Also, I am assuming it is perfectly okay then for me to use my OEM Honda Filtech filters for my V6 Accord on my '06 Nissan 350Z and vice versa?

I know you want to know, but to be really honest, I think you are sort of asking which is better, a car that gets 34.8 mpg or one that gets 34.9 mpg.

I'd use either filter with confidence. What I've slowly learned after spending mucho $$'s on a dozen or so UOA's over the years, is that it is probably more important to get a top quality air filter than a top quality oil filter. But that's just me.

Yep, its makes no difference. Most OEM oil filters are top quality. Problem is that OEMs have a habit of changing suppliers and PN's at will. Just because someone cut open a filter and makes a positive opinion, doesn't mean that the one you get, will be the same.

If the filter fits, use it. But, there is no point in wondering whether filter H is better then filter N.

If you want real oil filtration, install a bypass oil filter.

I use the same filters (Supertech 7317 and PurolatorOne 14610) on my 04 Accord V6, 05 Maxima and 05 G35 Coupe. In my opinion there is no need to buy oem filters...as they're usually overpriced for what you get.
