Well let's see if this Gatlinburg, Smokey Mountain boy comes through. By the way, got_titan, there are shift keys near the bottom of the key board. They are even on both sides. I do prefer all lower case over all caps though.

The Walmart near me has M06 GC right now, and it still says Made in Germany on it.

ok, maybe im lost here? all lower case? im not using caps? maybe you can explain?

Patman,

I think this thread has reports of GC gold up through M060876ATW18065 - 9:27. Personally, I have only seen M06044...I have about half of a quart contaminating some GC green in my MontanaSV6 right now.

got_titan, if it doesn't say "European Formula," can you at least tell us if it has the European oil specs (e.g VW 502 00/503 01/505 01, MB 229.3 or MB 229.5)? If not, then you might well have very old Syntec. If so, then post the pics right away and tell us what the lot numbers are. Better yet, let's arrange to have this stuff tested so we can see if it is as good as GC.

well guys, my camera is dead...so heres some off my camera phone....

now, all you that said no! eat crow!!..lol...lol j/k

i know its hard to see but the american 0w30 says "also meets gasoline engine protection requirements of porshe, bmw, volvo, and mercedes benz"
also on the bottom it says
castrol north america inc.
made in the usa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations, you've found 2001 or early 2002 PRE-GC 0w30.... As I knew all along, there's no information about any "new" made in USA 0w30, only misinformation *sigh*.

mis info or not this stuff exists!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was told that it did not!! also why would they have cases and it be from 2001 and its a very busy store????????

That is definately early pre-GC 0-30 american syntec. I've seen too many of those bottles to not recognize it. I 'm pretty sure I can even make out the SL rating. Probably that high moving stock store was sent a bunch of stock that was sent back from slow moving stores.

well either way i told you i saw it and i did! i would not have thought this would have been 5 year old oil still sitting on shelves??? either way its american made 0w-30

That's it. I'm convinced. There is no "AC" - just folks who really do not know what they're looking at. To all those who think that they have found a "new American formula" when in fact they have found really old stuff: Please, please, please read the forum and educate yourself about the different iterations of Syntec 0w-30. It's worth it and will save many of us from sweating about our magic oil, GC. Thank you.

Titan:

Respectfully, you should review FD777's very helpful GC FAQ thread, pinned at the top of this subforum.

What you've got there is with absolute 100% certainty pre-GC. How do I know? Look carefully at the labels. First, on the fronts, notice that the bottle on the right, which you believed was "new," still has the fuel economy "starburst". This feature disappeared with the advent of the heavier ~12 cSt German product. Unless they've completely reverted to the pre-2002 product, this should not be there. But more tellingly, look at the reverse sides. The "new" bottle on the right still has the "Castrol" logo. BP bought them out in 03 or 04, and as soon as they did, they replaced that Castrol logo with the BP logo you see on the left bottle. This is why I have repeatedly called for batch numbers, and why it is imperative that you refer to batch numbers, on the bottom of the bottle, in this sort of discussion. For reference, I've captured and marked up your pictures:

I've looked at and handled hundreds of bottles of Syntec 0w-30, in AZ stores from Orlando up to New Orleans, and some to the North on my various travels. I recognize that bottle well, it's either M01... or M02... US made stock. Titan, please report your batch number. Thanks for the effort though.
