Speed: If this thread isn't to you liking, don't bother with it. Someone got a gun to your head making you check in regularly and express yourself??? In case it has escaped your notice, this is a site that revolves around motor oil issues. Not cooking oil, not basketweaving, not flower arranging, motor oil. Perhaps you should go check out a nice basketweaving site if the questions here don't meet with your approval.

Then he could have his screen name as speedbw, and he would have a new hobby! Maybe he could go to the special olympics with it!

What $4-$5 "quart purchase" oil - that can be found in nearby auto parts stores - is overall better than GC in that ballpark viscosity range?

He didn't say he bought GC. He bought up all the Mobil 1 5w30 he could find.

Ekpolk and coop0129....a little sensitive it seems. Am i not allowed to check in on one of the greatest mysteries of this century? Do i have to use GC to peep at a thread about it?
Coop0129...
You not going to slap me are you?

Apologies if my last seemed a tad harsh, but really, if you're not getting anything from this, then why bother??? In fact, I think it is precisely the lack of info that makes this so telling. Of course, that also makes it hard to reach a closure point. Eventually, all the products we know, love, and discuss here will change. The question is only when and how.

Feel free to comment on this to your heart's delight, but it would be nice if you'd add a little more substance than a mere "rolleyes".

Gmorg: I thought Gary's spankbutt was pretty good.

To bring it back toward the point: As I mentioned above, I did procure a bottle of M06... stock, though it's about a month older than the most recently seen "Made in Germany" stock. I will put some pics up tonight, which will show that there has been a change to the label design, front and back. I now strongly believe that this change in design has thrown some less-experienced GC trackers off. The new design does contain the yellow-boxed "European Formula" language on the front, and the back is rearranged, and reflects the disappearance of the older "Porsche Approved" language and the addition of the MB 229.5 (in addition to the old design's 229.1 and 229.3). Subjectively, the yellow-boxed "Euro..." language does make the new bottles look a little like the very old pre-GC bottles. Anyway, again, I'll put up side-by-side photos tonight, comparing the look of M04... Green GC and the newest Gold GC.

ekpolk..the new design i've seen also. The made in germany is in the middle instead of under the starburst at the right. Alot of yellow sticks out especially the front label. There are slight changes to most syntec bottles it seems. I'm sticking to the rolleyes but i might add an ! next time.

Well, reviewing the bottles, as I said before, I think that Castrol has induced this mess. They have again changed the label design for GC. Here are some pictures of the M06... bottle I bought in the interest of science, compared with a bottle of Green from my stock. I have marked some of the pertinent differences. There may be others. I wonder why the Porsche spec has disappeared???

So, almost a month into this, and no one has come forward with a pic of the mysterious alleged American stuff. This little exercise took me less than a half-hour. C'mon 007, you were going to stay with this. You started it! Go buy a bottle and take pics. For now, I believe you are mistaken.

Because the current Porsche approval protocol requires either 0w40 or 5w40 oil.

(got most of it with PepBoys buy3/get3free deal) Let see 60+ FL400s MC filters/17 Purolater Airfilters/10 Goodyear VivaIIs/5+gal Lucas UCL/175+ qts of oil--I think I'm good for awhile, Oh almost forgot, the extra 01 Suzuki Swift to go along with the 98 Swift! 43-45MPG EACH and HAPPY!!!!!

I did the same, I stocked up on oil at low cost. Every time I'm in the oil aisle and I see the new high prices I feel happy with my decision.

By the time I run out there will be better oils.

I did recall that while i cleaned out my AZ store with stock full of GC it indeed had one pre-GC 0w30 that was American made. If i remember more precicely, it even had the starburst on front of the bottle and i'm not sure about the year probably 01?

Actually, I bought 100 quarts plus of GC, 30 quarts of Mobil 1 0W-20, 40 quarts of Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30, 8 quarts of Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20, 4 gallons of Delvac, and 8 gallons of Delo 400.

I played it safe in case oil prices or supplies were a problem, and moneywise I did OK in terms of having cash tied up in motor oil versus current prices.

In addition, in my location I have to travel quite a ways to buy oil, so stocking up was a good thing.

That was a super-quick answer for a "million dollar" question.

I have been trying to find illusive AC and have noticed post-Katrina GC showing up again. I would really like to know what sort of inventory system AZ warehouses use. Any Canadian observations about GC inventories at WalMart?
