New tool thread

Oil filter wrench for the ‘Yoda. It’s ridiculously overdone. Machined and anodized aluminum. Lol

New tools from Northern Tool. Metric swivel socket set. Skips a few sizes but I’ll order those. 20mm deep 3/8 socket for my cart rail . 6 point. T35 torx bit for home. Can’t say I’ll ever need it but I bought one for work so I need one for home too. I’m genuinely curious as to what this would be used for and Northern Tool is the only place around me that sells it. Then two ratcheting wrenches 12 and 14mm. All of this costed me $70.50. I was like man Northern Tool sure is more expensive than HF. It’s always been that way though lol. I had originally went to look at stubby impacts but they were sold out of just about every air and power tool. Also went because I need some better wrenches than my Craftsman China. My coworker has a bunch of the older Klutch wrenches and he recommended them. The set I found was made in India so I had to take a pass on that one. The individuals were made in China but appeared a lot thinner than his and a high $$$$ tag. So probably will hunt other places for wrenches. I have a 6 point set on the way but want 12 point as well.

A few months ago, @demarpaint posted a link for a set of Stahlwille 14 metric wrenches for $150 delivered. That was a really good deal on high quality combo wrenches.

In my years of wrenching, I have never needed a 20mm socket. It may happen one day though!

In looking at Amazon reviews, it appears some have reported using a T35 for an "old Honda" headlight assy, a Jeep Scrambler "rear axil (sic) cover plate," and an '06 Magnum idler pulley

What little I found an Amazon appeared to be the typical MIC junk with reviews of either it's-the-best-thing-ever or broke-on-first-use

FWIW kokenusa.com has Koken T35s in 3/8" dr for less than $14 ea and free "economy shipping"

As of 6:55a MST they had a code Memorial15 still working for 15% off. I imagine it'll be taken down once they get up to speed on this Tuesday after the Memorial Day weekend

The code made 'em ~$11.50 ea and I ordered two reasoning that if I ever need one, it'll be 10pm on Friday of a 3 day weekend and I'll surely break the first one

Still, I gotta be careful allowing AM to influence my purchases....next thing I know I might be addicted to SnapOn socks!

Snap-on Thursday today. Warranty replacement locking pliers again. Chrome peeled on these too so had to warranty them😡. Second pair I’ve had the issue with. The Snap-on man said he is going to point this out and see if there is something they can do about it. He did say these are actually nickel plated and not chrome so perhaps the nickel is weaker than chrome would be. One pair of socks as that’s all he had. And a wireless test light everyone told me to get it because it’s supposed to be the greatest thing lol. My Mac test light is a pain because it requires both power and ground so since he had one of every test light on the truck I got this one. And then a 32oz dead blow.
Time to give up on the Snap-Ons and get these:

Not everything Snap On sells is good.

Same here, no issues. It seems something is going on at Snap on with these, they are now offering Irwin Vise Grip (rubbish) and many models made in Spain by the same company that makes them for Facom, Proto and others.
I suspect Snap on spec'd a different high polish finish that isn't as durable as chrome, when the complaints started to come in they dumped them, or the price was too high, not enough profit.
The models in this thread don't seem to be on the website.

Check out the Made in Spain Snap on and the new Made in Spain Proto. Identical except for the color.

Grip On makes a wide variety of locking pliers. They are built different than the Vise Grip clones. They make them in fewer types in gray for Snap On and black or nickel plated for Proto.
I have a Malco and it’s made in USA, but I am not using it daily at work. I don’t mind paying more for USA once in awhile, and don’t buy it for the reason it has to be better because it costs more. I have the Grip On Omnium model and it’s very useful.
The portable vise is a useful accessory I will get someday.

The issue with that light is you are relying on your body as the ground reference and there is no current flowing which defeats the whole purpose of a test light. When we use a test light to test we are using the lamp to substitute for a load on the circuit and we need to size that lamp correctly to simulate the load. I have test lamps that range from 50 milliamps to 4 amps that I can use to load a circuit to make voltage drop measurements with a scope or meter.
I made a bunch of test lights out of some of the lights off of the junked 93 Cavalier in the field. They come in handy as you have mentioned for loading circuits during testing. I've tested the amp output on all of my factory made and home made lights and have them all written down.

Some new tools from Auto Zone yesterday. I convinced my friend to take me there on lunch lol. Really long 5/16x16 screwdriver. I have a 12 or 16 inch flat head on my cart but the tip isn’t the same size and these are a lifesaver for hard to reach hose clamps. The one on my cart is a 7/32 tip and it’s good for the smaller hose clamps but not the larger ones. Toyota oil filter tool for the house for moms Camry. I have one at work even though I’m a Subaru guy I still get stuck working on other stuff sometimes unfortunately. Then two sets of locking pliers for the house. As some of you may have seen my Pittsburgh ones gave out and almost caused the hood of our 2004 Camry to fall on me. So since I’ve had excellent luck with my little 4 inch pair of these Duralast vise grips at work I decided to go with them for the house too. I’ll eventually get the other two sizes when I need them. I was looking for some original Irwin/Peterson ones on eBay and the flea market but everyone wants so much for them it’s ridiculous. These in my opinion are on the same level as the Bremen line at Harbor Freight which are also really good.

More tools appeared last night lol. Made a trip to O’Reilly only because it’s the closest parts store to me to get some carb cleaner and leave with way more than that lol 😂. This is the only tools I got but I hadn’t planned on buying them but I need some of these so I got these to use until I get some to have at work then I’ll bring these home. If my parents were here I bet this would not have been purchased lol.

Snap-on metric wrench sets. Flank Drive Plus. 10-19 and 20-24. He gave them to me for a really good price so I was pretty happy about that. I’ve been wanting to upgrade my wrenches for awhile now and finally got to do so. I also have some 6 points coming in that are used but I got them just to have 6 point wrenches. I absolutely love Snap-on wrenches. Also 4 pairs of socks that I forgot to take pictures of lol.

There is no doubt at all in my mind that Snap-on wrenches are excellent quality. There is no way I could tie up $825 + tax for them though (plebian cost from Snapon.com website - $452 for 10 piece set and $373 for the 5 piece larger sizes). I sure hope you get a lot of use from them and that nobody "borrows" them from your tool cart.

I got a similar set from Stahlwille- 8-19 no skips and then four larger ones.

All of them were less than $200 from Amazon.de. Beautiful tools. Light weight. Perfectly sized so they fit fasteners well. Incredibly strong.

As nice as those Snap On wrenches are, they’re not better than the Stahlwille and they’re certainly not worth four times as much.

Yes I’d never pay that for them, ever, that’s why I never bought them before. I got both these sets out the door for about $570. No way I’d pay over $600 for them and for sure not over $800. I was a little hesitant at that price but I’ve been looking for good sets. I was going to wait on the 20-24 set but I do lots of alignments so I need them. So much of an improvement over my China Craftsman ones.

Stahlwille and Hazet are Europe's premium professional tools, like you I love the feel of the Stahlwille wrenches even more than the Hazet.

I did buy these from Snap on because they are not common.
