New tool thread

Hopefully everyone will like these better than the Snap-on I posted earlier which appears to draw a lot of dislike here to my surprise. However my opinion remains unchanged of Snap-on being the best wrench. We all have our preference and to me they are the best. I just really thought more people would prefer them over other brands. Like I said I would of never paid full price for them.

I don't think anyone here dislikes Snap-on wrenches, But you/me have to admit that they're pricey considering good alternatives are available at much lower cost
Most vises are made in China. If you were in the market for a new vise, the cheapest Wilton Bullet, made in the USA, is about $750. I almost bought this one, brand new, a couple of years ago.

Decided that I liked the idea of a restored/vintage tool better. So, I searched and found the Wilton I have now, at an antique store in Ivor, VA.

Sadly, even Wilton’s line has a lot of vises made overseas. That’s where the market is. The great names have vanished or been absorbed, and production shifted overseas. The new overseas vises are poorly finished, roughly made, don’t work as smoothly. But they’re cheap, and they work well enough.

The 1765 Tradesman Vise is no longer made in the USA, You can tell by the 28807 stock number, USA made 1765's have a 63201 stock number.

According to the Snap-on website, Their part# WV1765A which is a Wilton 1765 vise painted red....Is made in Taiwan.

The USA made 63201's were hard to come by 4 years ago when I bought two of them, Still need to mount one of them.

Some new tools from good ole Walmart. Got some 9 inch long nose vise grips for home stuff. I have a Chinese Irwin set that absolutely sucks. I bought at Walmart when they still sold Irwin probably 6-7 years ago and the teeth are completely gone on them. Not even worth trying to warranty in my opinion because the new ones will just do the same thing. I read online these are pretty good and they look like the Duralast vise grips which are great for what they are so I figured I’d give them a try if anything I can always upgrade them later as they are my home set. I have a smaller set of Bremen 6 inch long nose at home as well. Some they had were made in Vietnam and some in China this pair says China. Something was telling me Vietnam tools would be like India tools so I got the Chinese ones. These are definitely better than the Pittsburgh ones I can tell you that just by looking at them and these probably won’t fall apart and almost cause a hood to fall on you like the Pittsburgh lol. Also got a 3/8 socket rail for my swivel sockets that I got last week.

You need to stop with the tools...
Start collecting hot women😜

Thanks. Makes me smile every time I use it. A Wilton Bullet Vise is a classic.
Finding that old Parker (which looks the part in my extra garage which still has writing from the 30s on the walls), and talking about bullets renewed my itch. I’d been looking now and again, not terribly seriously. So I went to my CL app and pulled up the search. Saw an old grimy one with no swivel base about 20 minutes from someplace I was going today. I called the old man and he was home all day.

When I got there he had a few vices, bench grinders, and other tools in his garage.

I brought these home:

The bullet has a 1953 date on the keyway, meaning it was made in 1948. It was oily as can be on the top, like touch it and your hands were damp. I had to clean it a good deal to put it in my car.

Got some things at The Home Depot today. A 12 piece Mayhew punch and chisel set. I wanted to get the Snap-on but honestly I’m tired of waiting on everything to come in from Snap-on plus I don’t need to spend anymore money than I have too lol. But I may get them eventually. We will see how these hold up I know the name Mayhew so I hope they are the same quality they have been in years past. Then some Philips and flat head bit sockets. They will do me for right now till I find some better ones after I do some research.

Sweet!

I bought that set about 2 years ago, for DIY stuff, and because Amazon had it for a great price back then. The box end does fit snugly on fasteners for the few sizes I have tried. I like them.

Have you ever had a need for an "axle popper" tool when pulling Subaru axles?
Steck Axle Popper
Well, thanks for making me spend $. I found this ABN-branded set on AWD for $25.....and since I had uploaded $25 from a Pennzoil gift card rebate they felt "free".

Much like Mutually Assured Destruction, having them ensures I'll never need them

It depends on the car, some I rather use a pry bar but on others these really do the trick and work much better. On vehicles the shaft wont budge and comes out just enough that the pry bar doesnt have enough swing and you are trying to put something behind it that slipping all over the place.
I insert the flat one first then the pickle fork style tapered one in over it and just a few tap with a hammer and its out nice and straight with no marking the case.
Cheap $ tools (I have one from ABN also) but more than good enough for this work. The other one I have is one that fits the slide hammer, I really don't care for that one and it was pricey but that doesnt make it good.

Now you got some voltage to the old bulb. Mayhew is good stuff and would with no doubt cost a lot more of the truck.

Gearwrench 6 point combination wrenches. Bought from member @Sam_Julier . Thanks Sam. I wanted some 6 point wrenches just because haha. I had only had a few. Not sure on COO on these but it doesn’t matter to me as long as they work and have a warranty. These were also listed at a great price too. I don’t see any usage on them. I’m happy. Thanks again Sam.

It is not that anyone dislikes Snap on wrenches, ratchets, sockets or anything else in their hard line, they are very high quality tools, it is the price that simple.
Personally I like the quality, fit and finish of Stahlwille tools and have used the same ones as well as Hazets for well over 30 years, I did replace them a few years ago because I wanted the AS-Drive (Flank drive) but for no other reason, someone is still getting good use out of the old ones.
For the list price of the Snap on I got Stahlwille long and short pattern 8-24, Hazet long 6-24 and a full set of Stahlwille line wrenches and still had change for lunch.

Not to forget the English and Japanese, the English King **** are fine tools and the highest mirror polished and one of the best in the world is from Nepros. There is no best, best for you maybe but if you never owned another top shelf brand and used it for years how would you know.
