New tools from the pawn shop today. Nobody will believe it only cost $20 for everything. I seen the Duralast and was like I have to have that. I love Duralast tools as much as I do Craftsman. I didn’t really need any of them but I always find cool stuff there like that voltage tester made by Ideal Industries that you see pictured here. And got a couple things that will have to be warrantied by Stanley and Craftsman too.

Lots of goodies today.

These two are for dad. He keeps torx around because the dash of his Freightliner is all torx pretty much. The mini screwdrivers are for him too but I might sneak them into my box 😉.

Got this for me. I need a good light to carry in my pocket to pull out to look at stuff at work. Was trying to find one with a belt holder but haven’t found any.

Some people collect these things, they have some pretty exclusive stuff like the wood and leather handled ones then the Urushi (top pic) they are not inexpensive.

Its bad enough that i see you post tools that i want!

Now... you.... are trying to give me a new hobby!

Thanks for posting, didn't know such ratchets existed.

A lot of equipment is still using sae. Caterpillar and John Deere for sure. When I started my new job I had to bring my sae tools on day 2.

Of coarse, But I don't think he works on heavy equipment. Equipment manufactures need to update as it's pretty inefficient to have to stock both style fasteners & expensive for US to buy 2 sets of tools.

Like a Cummins in a Peterbilt, And a Kubota in a Bodcat.....Better bring both!

I seem to remember a 79 Plymouth fury I had that was like that.
It seems to be a common theme in that era. Chrysler corp had other trick in the early/mid 60's and maybe earlier and later with left handed lug nuts on one side.
...and Uncle's '83 Buick Regal
I remember working on those well, yes lots of mixed up stuff under that hood. I hated that era for US cars partly because of that and overall poor quality.

Capri Tools tool haul. Couple freebies too. The adapter is a freebie along with the patch. The sticker was in with the bit set. Very well built tools. I also purchased a 1/4 drive shallow 15mm socket and 1/4 drive deep 15mm socket to complete my set and plus it’s handy and not one you see everyday. I’m very happy with the purchase.

If you haven’t tried Capri Tools I recommend them. I’ve had nothing but good luck with them. I’ve got ratchets and another hex bit from them. Together this was $205 total. That was with my $5 and change credit from my last order. GM and Chrysler techs told me I will need that 15mm socket and a 16mm 1/4 drive too but I can’t find a 16mm anywhere and with me being Subaru I don’t work on enough to buy the 16mm.

You and I remember the days GM (no idea about Ford) used SAE and Metric in the same car, the metrics were green or blue when new but with time and rust became a real PITA.
Ford did it too.....The Bad Ole Days.....Miles of Vacuum Hose, Thermal Vacuum Switches, 6 V-belts on one engine, Electronic Mixture Control Carburetors, Paper & Cork Gaskets.

I don't miss it one bit!!

@AutoMechanic you seem to have acquired an impressive array of tools over the past few months. I am kinda jealous but I gotta know...does your garage look like this? I can't imagine having enough storage space for all that stuff! :)

Haha 😂. Well no man ever has room for all his tools. They are everywhere but very organized so I can get whatever I need efficiently. All of my home boxes are full and organized and my basement is full and let’s just say the tools are organized but nothing else. I’m stickler for neat organization of tools. 🙂. Also for extra space I take advantage of the cars. And most importantly I’ll know if something is gone or has been moved. My parents yelled at me for having it on the steps so I had to arrange it better haha. I have boxes and boxes of loose sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers etc but I know everyone in them. And they are small shoe boxes not like toolboxes I could not have a toolbox like that.

Ford did too. My 1994 Econoline is a mix of both. One minute you are using a 10mm the next it’s a 3/8. Drives me crazy but gives an excuse for more tools 🙂. The drain plug technically could be either because it’s a 16mm so you can use that or 5/8 and usually I use 5/8 since I have more of those sockets.

I bought one of their smaller torx bit sets and a few other smaller items that doesn't need to be commercial quality but having all the sizes in Torx, Torx plus, Tamper Torx, in a decent little box is nice and they have saved my backside a couple of times when I ran into a case mounted with tamper proof Torx when the rest of the dash was all regular Torx, why they did that I have no idea.
Anyway I surprised at the decent quality of these lower priced tools, not crap. For larger stuff and E-Torx I use other tools so I cant attest to the strength or durability of the larger sizes but for the money they are a good buy.

Williams 1/2” Ratchet and Socket Set, OLSA Socket Organizer.

The ratchet is made in Taiwan and is QR which I like. The Williams 1/2” ratchet below is Made in USA with a normal release and most likely SO. I’ll probably sell it.

The sockets are excellent quality. IMO, noticeably better than my current Husky 1/2” drive sockets.

The OLSA100FF socket organizer is well made. My go to organizer. 🙂

That Williams USA made is the old Snap on model, very good quality tools. The Taiwan ratchets are very good in some cases, I bought some Napa Carlyle ratchets on sale, they are good tools. The only problem with them is the retail price is high enough that you are close to top shelf discount supplier pricing, the Williams is a better value IMO
