A lot of equipment is still using sae. Caterpillar and John Deere for sure. When I started my new job I had to bring my sae tools on day 2.
Its bad enough that i see you post tools that i want!
I seem to remember a 79 Plymouth fury I had that was like that.
It seems to be a common theme in that era. Chrysler corp had other trick in the early/mid 60's and maybe earlier and later with left handed lug nuts on one side.
I remember working on those well, yes lots of mixed up stuff under that hood. I hated that era for US cars partly because of that and overall poor quality.
Ford did it too.....The Bad Ole Days.....Miles of Vacuum Hose, Thermal Vacuum Switches, 6 V-belts on one engine, Electronic Mixture Control Carburetors, Paper & Cork Gaskets.

. Well no man ever has room for all his tools. They are everywhere but very organized so I can get whatever I need efficiently. All of my home boxes are full and organized and my basement is full and let’s just say the tools are organized but nothing else. I’m stickler for neat organization of tools. . Also for extra space I take advantage of the cars. And most importantly I’ll know if something is gone or has been moved. My parents yelled at me for having it on the steps so I had to arrange it better haha. I have boxes and boxes of loose sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers etc but I know everyone in them. And they are small shoe boxes not like toolboxes I could not have a toolbox like that.
Ford did too. My 1994 Econoline is a mix of both. One minute you are using a 10mm the next it’s a 3/8. Drives me crazy but gives an excuse for more tools
. The drain plug technically could be either because it’s a 16mm so you can use that or 5/8 and usually I use 5/8 since I have more of those sockets.
