New tool thread

For the outbacks 3/8 drive fits better, on these the exhaust pipe come up right near the drain plug a 3/8 with a 3/8 extension just fits.
You are 100% correct Trav. My Subaru is a 2005 Legacy GT and since my last rear differential service 11 years ago, I had completely forgotten the drain plug requires a different tool size than the fill plug. When I did my quick check with the new 13.5mm socket yesterday under the car , my view of the drain plug was obstructed by the exhaust tubing and I did not see the size difference.

It is still a 13mm square plug but you need a 3/8 drive socket and extension to use it, 1/2 drive extensions are just a bit too thick too get it in straight, I usually use the 1/2 to 3/8 adapter and hit it with the impact gun. Use either on the fill plug as it is in the clear.

First ever Mac Wednesday for me. 1/4 roto head ratchet. Got it to try and if I don’t like it I’ll trade it or sell it. Not huge on the handle but want to give it a go. Ordered one from Snap-on months ago and still hasn’t arrived and I love these type of ratchets so to go with my 3/8 I got this 1/4 one. A 1/4 drive 15mm to fill the rail in my cart. Two pairs of socks to make all three brands of socks I own lol. And two pocket pry bars even though they call them screwdrivers haha. And all of this is paid in full I owe nothing to Mac I’m tired of debt. I wanted to give this guy business too because he is the first Mac driver I’ve ever met that has been nice.

Matco haul. Got the knife sharpener free mainly to make my coworker jealous but also cause I bought a knife lol. My coworker who owes more than anyone else owes to this Matco dealer on a truck account was trying to buy a bunch of stuff and hasn’t paid his bill in three weeks and this was one of the things he wanted. He said well I’ll give it to Blake and if Blake says you can sharpen your knife with it then you can but you aren’t buying anything today till I see some money or some tool surrender. I didn’t even make it back in the shop he swiped it out of my hand and sharpened his knife with it lol. I was going to get the same knife this kid has but decided to get a different one because a lot of everyone’s stuff in the shop matches so I want to be different on some things so it doesn’t get mixed up lol. The knife is really nice. You can’t ever have too many knives. And then a really nice flood light type of light it’s very bright and rechargeable.

Some new to me tools lol. Craftsman flare nut line wrench set SAE from eBay. Needed the 7/8 and couldn’t find it locally. Oh well used a regular wrench lol. Which I ended up needing a 15/16 as well so just had to use regular ones. Still have to get the lines made though and put them on so going to buy a stubby 15/16 today at Northern Tool. And also traded my coworker for a Popular Mechanics 1/2 drive ratchet. It was a fair trade I traded a knock off Matco pocket pry bar from eBay. I let him know it was a knock off but he didn’t care it was handy to him and this is worth more than that lol. I collect Popular Mechanics brander tools so now I have the 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 drive ratchets.

Klutch 15/16 stubby wrench. Need this to make the job easier on those air brake lines on dads truck. Thought about buying a whole set and I was like nah I’ll save up and get good ones. Only reason for buying this one is we want it for tomorrow or Monday for when we get the new lines on. The fitting on the right line at the top is blocked by other lines so this stubby will fit right in and I won’t need to move the other lines out of the way. Luckily we have Northern Tool because no where else sells this individually or in a set I would of had to order one. I wish they had a little bit better one though cause my experience with their wrenches is they are pretty weak but I think for a one and done job it’s probably ok. Plus the set skipped two essential sizes 13/16 and 7/8. Man the times I wish Sears was still around and selling USA made good tools.

More new to me tools arrived in the mail today. Oh and coins in the same package as a surprise lol but that’s great cause he knew I collected coins and currency. Only paid for the top 4 photos. Rest the guy threw in for me which I appreciate. Bought from GJ classifieds. I mainly bought for the Craftsman dog bone wrench and the Rigid pipe wrench as I lack pipe wrenches and the dog bone wrench is cool lol. Never seen a Craftsman branded one before. All the hand tools besides the pipe wrench is Craftsman USA. Not sure on the age of the non quick release ratchet with the oil port on top. The pliers in the second to last photo are Channellock brand just missing the blue grips. And yes I kind of wanted the meter too 😁.

~20 years ago when CM RP's (Craftsman raised panels) were plentiful and I was poor I'd just chop up extra wrenches and make my own stubbies. This one turned out more like a mid-length. Works great every time I've used it (shrug)

I can’t believe how much those Craftsman wrenches are going for now. I don’t think I could live with myself if I cut a wrench in half lol. I don’t have any extra 15/16 anyway I have a Craftsman USA at work and at home a vintage Upland Forge which I’m definitely not chopping up. I thought about ordering another one cause I hate using my vintage tools.

Matco and Snap-on Thursday today. One of the roto heads I ordered months ago finally came in. This is the 3/8 still waiting on the 1/4. That makes ratchet number 33 at work lol. Also copied my coworker and bought the Matco thin wall sockets and the collapseable magnetic tray/bowls. The advantage to these thin walls over cheaper ones is the sleeve is warrantied too not just the socket. Wish it included a 22 instead of a 17 though. The magnetic bowls was just because purchase lol. I plan to pick up the pink impact too when it gets in. Not just because it’s pink but because my coworkers have pretty much worn out my Milwaukee cause they use it more than I do. And I’m for sure not buying Snap-on power tools I’d consider Matco but don’t want the hefty price tag. And not impressed with what I’ve heard of the new Milwaukee so yeah.

I might order tons of stuff tomorrow because it’s pay day but I also am supposed to retake my state inspection test too so if I pass it I get to go on a shopping spree lol. Plus then I’d get a raise so I’d have more to spend the next paycheck lol. This is my third attempt out of the two allowed attempts lol. Technically it’s the third but on paper it’s the second. The trooper helped me out and didn’t count it the first time cause I was so nervous I could barely talk to him. It’s very nerve racking to have to stand there in front of a state trooper and explain everything and don’t look like a fool trying to use the headlight machine. My coworkers tell me I’m the luckiest person ever cause they all don’t like the state trooper I was like no, I’m just a good kid because he asked my bosses how I was as a worker and that helped him make the decision to give me another chance. Plus I’m the only one that has never been pulled over before or gotten a speeding ticket lol. And he is strict on the headlight machine but even though I totally flunked it the first two times he still let me continue the test even though that’s a part he won’t let you miss. It pays off to be a good kid. Me and the big boss had a talk today and he told me if I pass it that he will let me get what I want sooner and go back to Subaru sooner than originally promised because I’m really unhappy working on Toyota again. But he said either way I will not think any less of you if something happens that you don’t pass and no one is going to be mad or disappointed in you either. And either way I’m still first one the list to go to Subaru when the renovations is complete. It’s nice to feel respected where I work. The Toyota boss over me doesn’t want me to go but I think it’s best for me to go back to doing what I’m used too and what I want to do. The thing is if I fail I don’t get to move back as soon and I have to wait a year and retake the test again.

Sorry to get off topic a little bit haha. My first Snap-on purchase in awhile and the first time paying the bill in four weeks lol. Because he hasn’t been there two out of the last four.

Are Subarus easier to work on than Toyotas?

Good luck man!
Thanks. Still will buy some stuff lol. I come really close this time. Now unfortunately have to wait a year. I wasn’t specific enough on things and it costed me plus I messed up on the headlight machine. It’s just so hard to do with someone watching. Good thing is no one is mad about it or anything but I’m beating myself up over it.
