New tool thread

10 and 13mm SO impact swivel extensions, and a 10mm 1/4 drive mac universal.

Klann/Gedore and Proto day.

My Klann Mercedes spring compressor was bought from a Chrysler dealer that was closing. The Chrysler unit came with two telescoping units and two plates. I was able to import another set of the big plates from Germany for €183. Since I work slow, now I can have both sides off at the same time.

Gedore now owns Klann. The finish is less yellow, no more cadmium I suppose.

McMaster had a great price on rubber bushing lube… which is why I bought the 24mm stuff I needed from them.

Thrust bearings… note the one with green MB grease by the wrench.

Made my new homemade tool work so well that a 6 & 10 year old could press bushings.

Any tool I’ve made in the past hasn’t had one. How dumb I’ve been!

So everyone needs a thrust bearing in their toolbox if they want to make homemade tools.

Seems you could likely pirate a wheel stud installer for many applications??

I know not of what you speak.

Most of my cars have lug bolts :)

Now I have to look into these things!

Edit - looks like a nice heavy duty bearing. But mine was much cheaper!

There's a couple different sizes but they're not very expensive.

I used to own old Audis with lug bolts. And honestly I'm annoyed the KL Cherokees went back to this system ;)

Got a gift card to Amazon from work. I guess I could've spent it on some stuff that we need around the house, but that would be too sensible. Instead, I blew it on a new borescope! The responsible decision! I took it for a quick "test drive". Nothing crazy, just down the oil fill cap of my two cars. Ignore the date/time stamps. Haven't updated them yet.

Continued to tinker with the camera a bit more. It's still hard to get past the baffle plate and see anything of substance, but I was able to capture a cam lobe with the 90* angle camera. Looks good, too! Maybe that's to be expected for only a little over 88k miles, and I'll admit that we only see about 1/3 (I'm being generous) of the lobe, but hey. I'll take what I can get lol.

SnapOn SLF80A. Used in great condition, gave about $150 on ebay.

Milwaukee 2801. I gave my previous gen 2701 to a needy volunteer at my non-profit and used it as an excuse to step up to the 2801. HD has a promo kit at $99 right now, but I also gave him the new 2.0 battery as I don't use the baby batts much. If anyone is wondering, these brushless, non-Fuels still use a 1/2-20 spindle thread (Rohm is coming soon)

SnapOn S-8672 tailshaft bushing puller for T5/T10/C4 and lots more. About $80 on ebay. I wanted the S-8672D for the revised finger spacing, but these are getting rare. This one's 1/4-20 hole was blown out so I tapped a new one in the mill.

These locking spreading pliers proved useful to spread the fingers to reassemble. I added a light coat of grease and it slides reasonably well.

SnapOn S-8673 bushing driver for - you guessed it - T5/T10/C4 and more. About $50 on ebay.

Forgot about this guy (sans 20V).

I figured instead of using the home cordless, and instead of getting out the small shop vac, this would come in handy. Say vacuuming out an air cleaner box or channels under the trunk lid, anything dirty…

$109 Amazon…

The regular dewalt 20 volt shop vac is quite handy, we use it all the time at the shop rather than dig out the full size vacuum

Warranty replacement Capri 21mm 3/8 drive deep impact socket. Cracked on a very tight lug nut. They were happy to replace it. Yes I probably should have used my 1/2 for the lugs but I didn’t know how tight they were it was on the first one. So far they have been great about warranty.
I almost pulled the trigger on a Capri die grinder the other night. They claim 1hp and the price wasn't that bad.

But in the end I went less expensive and smaller and got this AP 1240 to replace a very similar AP from ~2006 that recently seized. I probably could have opened it up and got it working, but I didn't feel it was a good use of time.

Just arrived today:

I bought the Astro 205QL a few years ago and it has been very good, not much HP but it does what I need it to do with no problems.
I was wondering about their spindle lock versions....how well does that work?

Fumbling with two wrenches on die grinders (and tapping heads) is something that causes me more anxiety and frustration than it should.
