Good question, I'm not sure. It's disappointing Mobil started making such ridiculous oils like the "SUV oil" LOL.

Wow good find LOL. I try to be as consistent and objective as I can be, with all things. Doesn't mean I always am but that's my goal.

However with that said, I will still use Mobil 1 because I believe the value and quality is always at the top regardless.

the motor oil's 10 percent more sludge-fighting, anti-wear additive

In my opinion, they are referring to 10% more ZDDP, which I think is a good thing given the normal but meager amount in the regular M1 motor oil lineup. I'd much prefer that they had instead increased the amount of MoDTC to over 300 PPM of Mo, but that would probably have costed too much according to the bean counters.

Good point JAG. Although, I've read that tri-nuclear moly is most effective in the 50-150ppm range.

Ideally if I was in charge of their marketing, I would have made two tiers:

1. Mobil 1 which is good for up to 15k
2. Mobil 1 (call it EP or AP doesn't matter) and make it good for 20k.
3. Then offer Mobil Super and be done with it. AFE line is fine and so is the rest of what they offer but this SUV is a joke.

Looking at the 5W30 grade, I find it a little disappointing that the new product has a slightly higher viscosity at 100C than regular M1 (11.5 to 11.0 cSt) but a lower HTHS (3.0 to 3.1).
Wouldn't a higher HTHS be better for protection in a towing application where oil temps might get really up there?

Actually, M1 AP 5W30 is a similar story, 11.7 cSt at 100C but HTHS=3.0.

I'm not saying these oil are garbage, I just am surprised that the ultra long drain and truck/SUV products have lower HTHS results than standard M1 (at least in 5W30).

Yeah, I used it once or twice in my 2007 Tacoma, back in around 2008-2009. They stopped selling it and I just started using regular M1 or M1-EP.

Right.

I have a point to make... O'Reilly doesn't even carry M1 Annual Protection. And can't even order it. Clearly the various variants of M1 besides regular M1, HM, and EP, are not that popular. I can say maybe ONE person asked me if we sold it since they introduced AP. I said no and they just bought EP if I remember right. This truck and SUV is gonna be no different... A flop.

How many types of Amsoil can be purchased at O'Reilly's?

I said the same thing about Castrol Magnatec. It has already flopped once here in the States as GTX startup. It did not happen.

Especially when most automakers put the same engines in sedans.

Another opinion might be that the other product lines are not good enough. This is the same line of thinking as the laundry detergent manufacturers who tell us their brand cleans the best only to come out later with a " new and improved". It's all nonsense marketing.
