I'm not an expert on cleaning engines. I would use solvents, but not anything that is abrasive. There is really no reason to scrub off the stuff I saw inside your oil pan. Sludge is another matter. Think about it just because you got it back to the original color does not mean it's doing anything good for you engine. It just makes you feel better.
I know where you are coming from, I'm obesseive compulsive abut cleaning as well as you. But I won't introduce grit into the engine to do it. I like using Amsoil Power foam, Seafoam probably does OK.
Carb cleaner, Lacquer thinner, acetone. Those are the things I would use as well.

I use the brown 3M for cleaning head and deck surfaces. But definitely wouldn't use it for an oil pan.
