Bought the Gen 2 Taurus TX22 TORO from KYGUNCO for $334 plus $25 FFL fees at my local dealer.

Came with 2x 22 round mags and 3x 16 round mags, plus a pretty cheap viridian green dot optic.

Took it home today to clean and lube and install the optic. Will buy ammo in the morning and head to the range for its first outting tomorrow!

this is my first .22lr so any advice on ammo, or anything else would be welcome!

so any advice on ammo
CCi MiniMag fully jacketed have been pretty flawless for us. When I bought the gun, I also bought a box of about 5-6 different ammo brands and/or types. Some sucked - Aguilar, CCi Blazer, and another CCi variant. Now, at one point, I also took all of the magazines (when I bought it, Taurus had a deal where they'd send (4) add'l mags plus a range bag) and re-worked them. I disassembled them and used a light sandpaper to clean up the internals of the magazines as well as the follower. I also sprayed the internals with 3M silicone spray. Lastly, I cleaned up the feed ramp, if I'm remembering correctly. Since then, we've still only used that Mini Mag ammo and it's been pretty much perfect. I could try different ammo again, but why bother ? Pffft, you can buy this ammo at Walmart and the price is better than anywhere else too !

One other thing I do is when loading the magazines, I load ~6 bullets and then kinda work the follower up and down a bit. Load ~6 more, repeat, until it's full. Don't pull the follower all the way down to the bottom though or the rounds will get out of position and get jammed crooked in the magazine.

I tried to buy the same package 3 nights ago. I couldn't link or add my FFL on the KY Gun Co. website. Tried calling the next day and gave up being on hold for 10 mins.
I'll keep trying.

CCi MiniMag
This has my vote as well.

Winchester 333 is another, but they have been in the past a bit inconsistant.....reliable, but inconsistent

Typically, I like standard velocity for 22lr......in a rifle. Regular lead, 40 grain 1040-1020-fps or so. Already subsonic, so they are typically more accurate. But have found that in a pistol, Mini Mags work the best for overall function.

Depends on the gun.

Nice gun purchase, you'll love it. Mine eats anything in sight without so much as a hiccup. Most ammo works for me, but some is very dirty (Aguila). All thats been through it lately, and for the forseeable future, are CCI Mini Mags. Its like the Mobil 1 of .22LR ammo, great stuff and can be bought at Walmart for cheap money. I also got the extra 4 mag and range bag deal when I purchased mine.

Palmetto State Armory has the T.O.R.O. Gen 2 pistol, 22 rds. and 16 rds., for ~$299.

My buddy has two of these, he likes them a lot. He's used a variety of rounds in them, said he's never had a problem with any of them, they all cycle fine. So far anyway.
Agree, I have one and it is the most reliable 22 pistol I have ever owed. Ammo brand does not seem to matter, so it gets what ever is on sale.

That Veridian RFX11 green dot optic is $170 on Optics Planet and
$200 on Amazon.
Not really the El cheapo I thought it was.

Based on a few comments, I'm tempted to try some other ammo than CCi Mini Mag if I run across good deals. Hard to beat $9-11 for 100 at Walmart though. Even AIM Surplus can't touch that price.

I ended up getting a variety of ammo. Everything ran well for the most part.

I did have a significant number of FTF from the 22 round mags but less (probably a third) with the 16 round mags. I shot around 150-200 rounds and it got better with use.

overall, pretty accurate and fun. I ended up having tl tale the optic off because i guess i used the wrong screws that came with the green dot. So most of it was irons and still was accurate. My fliers were a combo of trying longer distance and rapid fire.

when i got home, i put the original screws that mounted the plate cover and it works, so thread lock and installed the green dot back on to cure before next trip.
